These facts were revealed yesterday in the replies to a questionnaire sent to 500 university coeds by the Y. W. C. A. to discover the importance of particular expenditures in the budgets of Northwestern coeds. Two hundred and seventy-five answers to the ques- tionnaire have been received. While cigarets are regarded by the majority in the light of a luxury, sport clothes are considered a necessity in the replies of two hundred and fifty- one. In the matter of fur coats, opin- ions seem to be fairly well divided. One hundred and fifteen regard them as a necessity, while 160 place them in the luxury class. Practically all believe that books, fountain pens and wrist watches are ab- solute necessities and eighty-six of the: 275 are: of the same opinion with res- | pect to typewriters. Candy, gum, theaters and motion pictures, trips to the football games and motor cars are placed in the lux- ury class by most of the coeds.
