W. C. A,, according to the an- nouncement made this week by Mrs. Robert DeGolyer, 850 Auburn road, Hubbard Woods, chairman of this service program. Crushed stone for buildings and railroads, advertising, a steel corporation, a bank, a bond house and the vocational department of the University of Chicago are represented in the appointment of William Press Hodgkins, Walther Buchen, Clarence Randall, Herman D. Smith, Scott Bromwell and Robert Woellner. "The advantage of an employment placement service having the benefit of the employer's own point of view is evident in this committee," says Mrs. DeGolyer. "Business houses which are not yet calling Miss Harriet Houghton, our employment secretary, when in need of any kind of office help, will be interested in our service through the personal work of this new committee. "During the past year 14,107 inter- views were given girl job seekers in addition to 342 who were given definite vocational guidance. The total number of girls registering for jobs was 6,117, including 1,374 newcomers to the city. Jobs filled include Bookkeepers, cashiers, clerks, institutional workers, secretaries and stenographers, social workers, telephone operators, typists and part time workers," says Mrs. DeGolyer, in summing up the service of the department, "Our purpose is to make every girl happy in her work, sending out the best girl for each job after a careful analysis. The placement and voca- tional counselling is being directed by Miss Harriet Houghton, who has had wide experience in New York, Rich- mond, and other cities.
