"Of course, the Royal '75° Chandler Sedan can step, but instead of showing its paces on the track, this time it stepped out in front of a large field of con- testants and won the cup for being the most beautiful car in its particular price class. "This car beauty contest was staged during the style show at the Tennessee State Fair, held recently at Nashville. Closed cars of practically every repre- sentative make in the $1500 price class were entered, and the verdict of the judges in picking Chandler the winner for beauty, speaks much for the pro- gressive body designing, smart appear- ance and color harmony of the Royal '75 Eight De Luxe Sedan. Texas Now Leads Nation in Highway Construction Texas leads the nation in highway construction, based on Federal-aid al- lotments, with a total of 5967 miles of such roads constructed since the Fed- eral-aid law was enacted in 1916. Greenleaf 1110 Don't Forget That Battery, Is Tip of Winnetka Dealer "Motorists often ask," said U, C. Abel, Winnetka Exide dealer, "why some batteries last longer than others. The answer is simple, they last longer because, other things being equal, they get better care and attention. "A storage battery, as a rule, re- quires very little attention, but in these days of hustle and bustle," he says, "It is easy for motorists to forget the lit- tle black box hidden beneath the driv- er's seat. As a consequence, most batteries are neglected. Unfortunately, this tendency seems to be growing every day. "Once it is installed, the average mo- torist forgets his battery until it be- gins to give him trouble. Then, and not until then, he takes it to a service station for a 'going over. Usually when this happens, he is in need of repair work and may be surprised at the size of his repair bill. "Large battery repair bills are un- necessary. The engineers of the world's largest manufacturers of stor- age batteries, The Electric Storage Battery company, claim that a monthly inspection of a battery will go a long way toward insuring maximum life. Furthermore, it will do much to keep down the upkeep costs. "T'en minutes a month is all the time required for such an inspection. Reg- ular addition of approved water is an absolute necessity. Often a little cor- rosion removed from the terminals or a tightening of the connections or cables will prevent future trouble. The charging rate of your generator should be properly adjusted to meet the dif- ference between summer and winter driving. "All of these jobs are small and can by quickly attended to. But if they are neglected, they are apt to necessitate the spending of many dollars." Winnetka Dealer Sees Leadership Coming to America As the world's money market has been transferred from London to New York, so will leadership in au- tomobile styles from FEuropean to American control, according to Gould C. Davis, Hupmobile dealer of Win- netka. "America's new priority in motor car design was one of the significant features of this year's automobile shows at Paris and London, Says Mr. Davis who has made a study of automobile trends as disclosed by the range of new models displayed. "While in the past it has been ex- pected that American cars would fol- low the styles of European designers in their manufacturing, the impression one gains this year is just the reverse. Formerly American manufacturers went to Paris and London to get the trend of the year's modes in automo- biles, as revealed by the creations of Europe's designers, but the latest and most beautiful types of Europe's auto- mobile factories exhibited this year fol- lowed closely the styles already an- nounced in connection with the 1929 models of American cars. "While we have taken style leader- ship from Europe's producers, we can still get many valuable ideas from them in the mechanical details of car man- ufacturing, and many representatives of the engineering departments of American automombile companies find it profitable to pay close attention to ideas developed in the engines and chassis of their trans-Atlantic col- leagues, "Hupmobile is keeping pace in Europe with its record breaking pro- gress in the United States."
