AAR i » 13 St. John's Ave. Highland Park Phone 307 * PRA Winnetka Woman Writes Music for Spicer Poem Mrs. Margaret Boman, 510 Walnut street, has recently had published a musical score for a poem written by Mrs. Anne Higginson Spicer of Ken- ilworth under the title of "Nancy Hanks' Lullaby." This poem was first given as a toast at a celebration of Lincoln's birthday at the Allied Arts association in Chi- cago in February, 1927, and was pub- lished in a well known woman's maga- zine last February. Mrs. Boman is more than 70 years of age and the mother of six children. She was so moved by the sentiment expressed in Mrs. Spicer's poem that she was able to write the music for it despite the fact that she has never had any musical training. Mrs. Boman declares her work is solely the result of inspiration. Miss Peggy Waidner and Miss Charlotte Montgomery, members of the Mid-West Hockey team which re- cently competed in Philadelphia for national honors, have returned home. Miss Waidner was honored again this vear by being made right-wing on the All-American or 1928 United States team. Miss Montgomery was named for the second or reserve team. Miss Elizabeth Lamson, also a member of the Mid-West team, is expected to re- turn this week-end or the first of next week. --(-- Mrs. George Jones, 318 Oxford road, Kenilworth is entertaining twelve guests for luncheon and bridge today. Winners of Turkey Shoot Announced; Award Prizes Soon The Winnetka chapter of the Izaak Walton league held its annual turkey shoot Thanksgiving morning on the beach at the foot of Willow street. Two scouts from each of six local troops were present to compete for the prize of a Winchester rifle offered by Ex-Presidents Ely and McCordic. Tom Larson of Troop 18 with a score of 28 out of a possible 36, won the rifle, and Louis Williams of Troop 20 was second. Williams was awarded the sheathed hunting knife donated by Taylor and company. These two winners and twenty-nine members and sons of members then entered the main event, which was won by Clem Page, of Detroit, a twelve-year-old visitor at the home of Fred A. de Peyster. After this a spe- cial match of five shots at target drew the fire of nine sharpshooters, Arthur H. Woodward carrying home the bird with a score of 41. A chicken shoot with pistol at- tracted six entries, the winner being J. M. Dickinson, Jr. The prizes will be presented at the annual meeting and dinner of the chapter in January.
