Gilbert plays the role of Baron Reiner. He is a bandit of hearts, working his racket in smart Viennese society. The picture is based on the novel, "The Masks of Irwin Reiner," by Wassermann. Eva von Berne, the Hungarian dancer whom Norma Shearer is said to have "discovered" while on her trip to Europe, does well for one of so little film experience. Alma Rubens' dark beauty is an addition to the picture. The stage show for next week is to be called "Dancing Along,' with Al Rvals and the Collegians presiding as usual. COMMUNITY HOUSE Tues., Dee. 11 Fri, Dec. 14 Dolores Costello Pir Conrad Nagel "GLORIOUS "THE BETSY" GAUCHO" Orchestral SOUND Accompaniment "Do Your Duty" Is Saturday Offering at Teatro del Lago "Do Your Duty," comedy starring Charlie Murray, is the attraction this Saturday at the Teatro del Lago. Murray, always to be depended upon for providing plenty of merriment, is at his best as a cop. Doris Dawson, as ingenue lead, is charming. She is Murray's daughter, and is to marry a young policeman played by Charlie Delaney. The wedding is in a police station and is almost disrupted because Murray fails to show up. But he gets there at the finish, having redeemed himself by capturing the crooks who had framed him earlier ir the story. Richard Arlen and Louise Brooks play the leading roles in "Beggars of Life," this Sunday's Teatro del Lago offering. Arlen has the part of Jim, who isn't a professional tramp, but is beating his way to an uncle's home in Canada, and Miss Brooks is Nancy, a girl who kills a man to escape from him and then runs away to escape the law. Dressed as a boy, Nancy accom- panies Jim as his "kid brother." The chivalrous Jim treats her with brother- ly care and affection, which blossoms into love. All goes well until the two join a band of tramps who easily guess the sex of the "kid." The picture stands out distinctly as to plot and manner of presentation. The boys "swear off," when up steps another little stranger, and it's the same thing over again, Vitaphone Presentation Pleases Alcyon Patrons Much interest has been shown in the presentation of vitaphone and movie- tone subjects at the Alcyon theater in Highland Park. On the opening day last Sunday crowds thronged the thea- ter and flooded through the lobby to the street, For the coming week the Alcyon an- nounces three sound picture pro- grams, all of which have received high praise from movie critics.
