Rinty is seen fighting for the life and happiness of a young fur- trader who bought him from a harzh master. In the cast also are Nanette, Rinty's white wife, and their seven latest puppies. Ray Enright, who di- rected Rinty in "Jaws of Steel" and "Tracked by the Police," also directed him in this picture. George Bancroft portrays the role of a coal-heaving ship's stoker in his new picture, "The Docks of New York," coming to the Teatro del Lago this Sunday, December 16. Bancroft has found his new role ideally suited to him, and his characterization in this picture has won him loud acclaim. He is ably supported by Betty Compson, Baclanova, Clyde Cook, and Mitchell Lewis. The film was directed by Josef von Sternberg, who directed the star in "Underworld" and "The Drag Net." "The Battle of the Sexes" will be shown at the Teatro del Lago next Monday and Tuesday. Jean Hersholt as a business mogul greatly distresses a happy family by becoming entangled with a gold-digger blonde, Phyllis Haver. Don Alvarado is good as the power behind the blonde, and Belle Bennett adds suspense to suicide as the distraught wife. Glenn Tryon and Patsy Ruth Mil- ler have the principal roles in "The Gate Crasher," booked for next Wed- nesday, December 19, at the Teatro. Mr. Tryon is an able funster, and Miss Miller gives excellent support. The story is about a hick detective who discovers a jewel thief without the use of either rhyme or reason. With five of the cleverest comedians in Hollywood in the cast and with many famous stars, including Charlie Chaplin, Norma Talmadge, William S. Hart, and Douglas Fairbanks playing themselves, as atmosphere, the new Marion Davies-William Haines co- starring picture, "Show People," com- ing to the Teatro del Lago next Thurs- day and Friday, is said to be the most unique comedy of the season. Miss Davies has the role of the little extra girl who comes to Hollywood and at- tains sudden stardom. Haines plays a slapstick artist who graduates from the comedy lots in time to save "Peggy," the heroine, from the fate of the "up-stage" actress. "The Hole in the Wall," to be made from the play of the same name by Fred Jackson, will be the next picture to go into production at Paramount's Long Island studio. . COMMUNITY HOUSE Tues. "Companionate Marriage" Now Showing at Varsity "Companionate Marriage" is the title of a picture now showing at the Varsity theater in Evanston. The film is based on Judge Ben. B. Lindsey's treatise on modern marriage, and Mr. Lindsey himself appears in the open- ing shot. Betty Bronson has one of the principal roles in the picture and Richard Walling, who plays the lead, is an actor worth watching. Four marriages form the basis of the plot. Norma Talmadge's dramatic picture, "The Woman Disputed," adapted from the play, will be shown at the Varsitv for three days next week beginning Monday. The picture harks back to the great war, and the star is seen as a woman who makes a supreme sacri- fice for her country. The action starts at Lemberg, Aus- tria, where an amateur Magdalen is rescued from a perilous mixup by two young men. They are Paul Von Hart- man (Gilbert Roland) of the Austrian army, and his dearest friend Nika Turgenov (Arnold Kent), a Russian officer. The two friends take the un- fortunate girl in charge, find her a job, and fall in love with her. When war breaks out and both men are sum- moned the girl declares her preference for Paul. Nika leaves in a rage for Russian headquarters and Paul joins the Austrians. The Russians capture Lemberg in time to allow Nika 1o exact a certain measure of revenge.
