on our "Kid line" scored both goals on passes by Gismondi and Scandiffio. Although the team lacked substitutes, the boys acquitted themselves in midseason fashion. The work of Pat Fratteroli and Dossey on the defense was little short of perfect while Chrysdale had lit-- tle to do in goal. Blank West Wards 1--0 The Circolo chalked up their second victory in as many starts by defeating the highly touted West Wards at Willow: dale Arena. The Circolo was. strongly augmented by the addition of Lou Spalla, formerly of Native Sons, Tony De Marco and Cliff King. The presence of these newcomers on the ice was very conspicuous, DeMarco, the new-- comer scoring the only goal of the game. & : In the first period the Circo-- lo had the edge on the play and should have scored on various occasions on rushes by Scandif-- fio and Bernardo, the sharp-- shooter, while the new line composed of King, Dossey and De Marco was pretty to watch on the offensive. Once again Fratteroli proved himself a tower of strength. on the defen-- se. The last period was packed with thrills. Play flashed from one end to the other and both goalies were called upon to ma-- ke sensational saves. Last Tuesday evening mark-- ed 'the beginning of a proposed series of dances and socials which we anticipate holding this coming year. It is our ob-- ject and aim to make our Club the centre of the social activi: ties in our -- colony and to strengthen the tie of friend-- ship between ourselves and the various organizations, b o t h young and old but more speci-- fically the former element. In the near future we expect to hold more affairs of a similar nature and hope to gain your full co--operation. Circolo Colombo Social Last Tuesday _ a crowd of young people gathered at the Circolo Colombo to dance to the strains of Dick Lobraico and his orchestra. A most enjoyable evening was spent by eve-- ryone present and for those who were absent all we can say is "Ask those who were there". Now that the Lenten season is fast approaching our social ac-- tivities shall cease, to be renew-- ed again with a glorious ball on Easter Monday. The Circolo Colombo Hockey Club who have entered the in-- termediate series of 'the T. H. L. opened their season auspi-- ciously by blanking the Sioux Hockey Club to the tune of 2--0. Victor. An exhibition game was played with the A. R. Clark team of intermediate commercial series, the score ending in a 1--tie. Miss Rose Borsa, daughter of Bro. Tom Borsa, was wedded to Mr. Ed. Bavington last Tuesday morning, in St. Francis Church. Rev. Father Borsa, brother of the bride, officiated. A _ wedding breakfast was held at the home of Bro. Borsa after the church service. Simone Spows had a change of heart and managed to take 3 points from the Lucky Strikes and this was due to the long await-- ed return to form of Elia who has been bowling poorly the last few weeks. With itwo single games of 288 and 259 he hit 713 for the total to lead both teams in this respect. L. H. EB. The Eaton Bowling team with the addition of Tommy Mallen have taken a new lease on life and each week they gradually move ahead towards the covet-- ed playoff positions. This week their victims were the Friuli. Led by the aforementioned Mal len with 697 and 672 respecti~ vely they took three points. Po-- nesse and De Zorzi were the best for the losers with 655 a-- piece but their efforts fell 18 pins short of annexing, the to-- tal point score. Cufaro with a single game of 312 was the highest on either team 'but his two following games failed to get anywhere. Frankie Genovese Wins Thirteenth Pro. Fight Monday January 29 .. Euesday: January 30 '. Wednesday January 31 Thursday February 1 . Last Monday night at the A-- rena Gardens, Frankie Genove-- se, popular local prizefighter succeeded in defeating 'Young' Millie Jackson of Brooklyn, N. Y., by a knockout in the third round. It is just one year ago on January 27th that this pa-- per announced that Genovese was fighting his first Toronto pro. fight. Since then he has fought thirteen fights and has been victorious in all of them. Last Monday he was matched against he best opponent he has met as Jackson has defeat-- ed several of the top notchers, and the decisive manner in which the local Italian boy de-- feated his more experienced ri-- val gives ample support to the statement made in these co-- lumns last week, that he will be a strong contender for world's honors in the near future, that is barring accidents. Another local Italian boy who gave a good account of himself was Vince Glionna, who defeat-- ed a rugged and hard hitting boy from Windsor. Vince show-- ed in this fight that he can take it and also hand it out, as after absorbing severe punishment in the first three rounds, he came back strong in the fourth round and knocked his oppo-- nent out. BOWLING NEWS (By Albert Pellettieri) KI 7142 Columbus Coal vs. The Hookers Lucky Strikes vs. Eatons 5 Pellettiers vs. Columbia Spows vs. Friuli In the last game of the pre-- vious week the "Unlucky" Pel-- lettiers took three points from the Lucky Strikes and only lost the fourth by ten pins or the checked his ever falling aver-- age for a time with 650 and was closely followed by Gorassi with 638. Gismondi was the best for the losers with 646 but the ever reliable G. Bernardo had his usual over 200 average to record 618. Tassiello showed a spark of last year's ability with 629 but we look for better scores from him. "Perpetual Mouth Motion'" Conti rolled 2 very poor games but we can readily understand this because Vincent Pellettier was not there to give him the razz. . _ Colunibia took four points by default when the Hookers fail-- ed to put in an appearance but in rolling for their averages Grittani rolled 301 and 255 which with a fair third game totaled 744. Marcello had a sin-- gle game of 256. Are you aware that our re-- gular monthly meetings take place on the fourth Sunday of each month? The attendance at our first social of the year was rather disappointing. The support ex-- pected from our member body was somewhat lacking with the exception of a few of the regu-- lars. Next Monday, January 29th, Bro. Charles Cira and his wife celebrate their tw entyfirs t wedding anniversary. We take this opportunity of extending our sincere congratu-- lations to the happy couple, with the hope and wish that the Good Lord may spare them for many more years to come. VAPORI IN PARTENZA PER PITALIA The members of the Spow and quite a number of the boys were out to see our team blank the highly touted West Wards at Willowdale Arena last Mon-- day night. A few old timers were present and they seemed to have enjoyed the game im-- mensely. R. Polito and W. Sansone are again at the helm of the Hoc: key Club and this year with the addition of some new blood they expect to get somewhere. Perhaps a championship. Who knows ? Rev. Father Borsa paid a vi: sit to our Club last Tuesday evening accompanied by his fa-- ther, Bro. Tom. Father Borsa renewed many acquaintances, several of whom were his for-- mer classmates. CLUB NOTES BOLLETTINO George F. Sansone, R.0., Editor DEL Handicap after a heartbreaking finish. The team again set a high three game score with 3371 and each member hit well over 600. The Lucky Strikes al-- so rolled well and it was a close battle throughout. Friday Nighters. ' The Strikes and Blows turn-- ed the tables on the Hit and Misses last Friday when they took the two points after a clo-- se struggle. Chris Mastrangelo once again led her team to vic-- tory with 338 for two games. Mary Dinorcia rolled 282 and Bena Mazza had 372. For the losers Rose Cairo was the best with a single game of 245 and a total of 387 for two but her efforts were useless when her teammates rolled poorly. Jose-- phine Grittani was the low sco-- re this week and she gets the crochet dish rag given by An:-- dy. Kay Mazza upheld the fame of the Mazza clan by rolling 263. The girls are improving in their bowling each week and it would be a problem to pick the star of the aggregation. The Hookers seem to have lost interest in the league and to keep things in order it would be advisable if something was done quickly to offset this cala-- mity. Suggestions will be glad:-- ly accepted. Keep at it, girls, and we'll pick the five best to take the place of the Hookers in the men's league. La colonia tutta é invitata ad intervenire al ballo di Gala che si terrà la sera del 31 corrente al King Edward Hotel, sotto il patronoto dell'Ordine Figli d'l talia, Loggia di Toronto. Question Marks. Babe Palange crashed the limelight this week with the marvelous score of 399 for two games and a single of 210. This young lady doesn't say much but she is always in there try-- ing to do her best which is the way it should be. Rosalind con-- tinued her rapid pace of the last few weeks with a score of 348 to bring her average up to a commanding lead. The usual luncheon was served and Bob Polito was initiated in the ranks of the vultures, which boasts of an ever increasing membership. He is still chasing his lady love and it would be appropriate to give another hint. She lives North of Dun-- das. The sewing circle began but poor Andy could not find anyone to mend his coat. None the less, there is no lack of several polemical items which render the work lively and brilliant; nor is there a lack of practical useful confutations of the vulgar opinions against Fa-- scism. Thus 'the author should re-- vise the third chapter; "The Constitution and the Corpora-- tions" which was entirely pass-- ed over by the latest Italian legislative provisions. It is a difficult task but unavoidable if he wishes to keep up--to--date a publication which up to the present time is the most com-- plete of its kind in Canada. The book has one defect, for which however the author is not to blame, but it is a defec-- tiveness inseparable from the very nature of the argument. Fascism is dynamism. ~ It is something ever changing in the fatal growth of human things. A writer can only grasp the present moment. The future is always uncertain, always inse-- cure, because the movement, frankly, is still revolutionary and hence subject to profound changes. We beg to disagree with the author in his comparison be-- tween the American N. R. A. and the economic principles of Fascism. There appear to be elements of contact between the N. R. A. and the principles of the ' Corporate State, but these are rather scarce. The most important of them is that with the N. R. A. the liberalism which was injuring the people. is decidedly abandoned, while the liberalism which injured the industrial and commercial classes was already abandoned. The contingency attached to the N. R. A. is whiat 'mostly differs from the Corporative State, because it invalidates the ethical contents of the law. It is certain that there are not a few who think that such a cha-- racter will soon be taken away and that Roosvelt has begun an experiment from which it will be impossible to iturn complet: ely back. The die is cast and the game must be played. Our main drawback for the past few months . was the lack of a permanent club--room. This has now been overcome through the foresight of Cav. Carboni. He has been kind en-- ough to allow us the use of his studio as a club--room. We thank you, Cav. Carboni, for your kindness. You fellows who have been in Italy at Campo Mussolini can readily understand the signifi-- cance of Piero Parini's visit to Toronto. You remember, of course, how comfortable he made our stay at Campo Mus-- solini. And now this same gen-- tleman who has done so much for us is coming to Toronto. A-- bout the only thing we can do, is so far as repaying him for his gratitude, would be to try and make his short sojourn in Toronto as happy and as com-- (continua della prima pagina) The American people how-- ever, were not ready for the ex-- periment even if necessity im-- posed it on them. The labour class is not mature, being much behind that of Italy, and much less mature appears the class of those who supply work, who in their egoism do not see the social crisis through which we are passing. Pellettieri, Sal. Cira, N. F. A. Scandiffio. Father Auad Club Chaplain. We beg to disagree with the author's opinion in one other thing. He seems to retain that the government of Italy is a dictatorial _ government. -- We firmly believe the contrary. In the chapter: "Progress and Results", the author should add something else, about the Fa-- scist realization in brief and different paragraphs, since Fa-- scism is the practical realiza-- tion of the ideals of the people and the satisfaction of the col-- lective needs and those of the nation as a whole. Why not a paragraph on the Fascists in foreign lands? "Is Fascism the Answer?" is amongst the most complete pu-- blications and the most practi-- cal on Italian Fascism in Ame-- rica in spite of some unavoid-- able errors which can be easi-- ly incurred in an argument so vast and so big in which the whole world is interested and of which all ask: "Is fascism the solution to the social crisis which is afflicting us?" A special invitation is extend-- ed to the boys of the club to attend the meeting which will be held at the Circolo Colombo on Sunday at 4 o'clock in order to rehearse the beautiful songs which His Excellency Parini liked so well in Italy. In order to assure the success of our next meeting, a full at-- tendance is necessary. Some important matters are to be discussed. In the end we feel deeply grateful to the author for hav-- ing studied so closely the con-- temporary life of our country, for having described it with ac-- curacy and precision, for hav ing placed so much impartial-- ity, which to--day is so difficult to find here, and, why not, a little love for us Italians. Our ideas is not to present to the readers a perfect and complete work on Fascism; we have pointed out the defects rather than the merits, but we insist on the fact that Mr. Jones presents a pleasing work, full of interest, in which he shows that he has understood the true spirit of Fascism and its leader. ' Fellow members will kindly foreward their essays on or be: fore Sunday, January 29th to Mr. Mari or to myself. Ample time has been allowed for the story. All members interested in Soccer are asked to obtain par-- ticulars from Henry Barone or myself. Because a government can | called dictatorial if it must rl.:' only by force.
