- Description
On December 17, 1841, the Diocese of Toronto was created, encompassing the western half of Upper Canada. Michael Power was appointed its first bishop. Then, on March 29, 1845, the Diocese was incorporated as the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation for the Diocese of Toronto, in Canada.
Some of the records in this group date back to 1830, predating the creation of the Diocese as well as the Province of Ontario as we know it today.
The later entries, dating back to 1851-1852, coincide with the installation of Armand-François-Marie de Charbonnel as the Diocese' second Bishop, after the death of his predecessor, Bishop Michael Power, in October of 1847.
