Description

The cornerstone for Sacred Heart Parish was blessed on June 1, 1864 with church opening on January 6, 1865. In 1959, Rev. Andrew Marynen initiated the building of a new church. Because the church was demolished so the current church could be built on the same site, services were held in the chapel at St. John Training School from August 1963 until May 1964.

The first Mass in the new church building was on June 5, 1964 led by Rev. Andrew Marynen and the solemn blessing took place on Sunday July 26, 1964 at 4:00 with the most Rev. Archbishop Pocock.

Various improvements and changes have occurred over the years by talented and dedicated parishioners giving their time and efforts to add to the beauty and devotion in the church. One of them was the Grotto dedicated to Mary which is located on the front lawn of the church.
