Description

The cornerstone for the first church, containing a piece of rock from Lourdes, was laid on Sunday, May 10th 1874, by Archbishop Lynch. He also consecrated the new cemetery that same day. The church, which was Gothic in style, was completed in 1875.

On St. Patrick's Day, 1978, the final mass was held at the original church, heralding in a new era for St. John's Chrysostom.

The ground on which the new church now stands, was blessed in August of 1977 with construction beginning in November of that year. The first communal gathering in the new church was the celebration of the Eucharist on March 18, 1978. The official opening of the new St. John's Chrysostom was held on May 28, 1978.
