The next year, while in Grade 8 he won 56 consecutive matches which in- cluded firsts at the provincial, Cana- dian and World Schoolboy champion- ships in Oslo, Norway. He was wrestl- ing in the 136-pound division. Once in high school Gendron had no equal in the province as he won five consecutive Ontario championships in his weight class. Three times he placed second in the Canadian cham- pionships then in Grade 13 (1983) he won the Canadian title at 165 pounds. During his high school reign Gen- dron compiled a 319-32 record.
