This time it's a man with a substantial record of service to his hometown, local gov- ernment -- both a:S civil ser- vant and elected representa- tive. One - time mayor Gerald B. Hyde is resigning his post as perstminei director and purchasing agent. Mr. Hyde has been ap- pointed director of personnel •and labor relations for the city of St. Thomas. His new appointment is effective April 1. In moving to St. Thomas, Q v ^H Mr. Hyde is taking leave of the city in which his family name has had close ties with munieipal administration. His father, Charles Hyde, was a city councillor for many years. Mr. Hyde continued the family tradition by successive- ly seeking election to city council in the years 1953-57. In 1958 he climaxed the fam- ily record of service by be- ing elected mayor. He leaves his city hall ;>osj almost four years exactly from the time of his appoint ment -- in March 1966. As purchasing agent Mr. Hyde administers an operation centralizing much of the city's municipal shopping needs. He also plays a custodial role for the city hall edifice -- a Quinte landmark. In that capacity he is re- sponsible for upkeep and maintenance of the near-cen- tury-old building. Mr. Hyde is the fourth sen- ior official to vacate a city ; hall post in little more than / a year, for appointments in ^ other municipalities.
