Death of John Husband.
Throughout the county of Halton John Husband was known everywhere as "Honest John Husband." and his death as his home in Oakville last Friday will be generally regretted. Mr. Husband had been in poor health for some time. Deceased was a native of this county, having been born in the township of Nassagaweya, in the year 1831. His father, the late John Husband, was a native of Tipperary, Ireland, and was for years in the British navy. He settled in Nassagaweya in 1828. John was an energetic young man and early in life was impressed with the advantages of an education. To this end, after securing a good elementary training in the common school at home, he hired out, carefully saved his earnings, and then went to Baldwin College, Ohio, and took a course there. Subsequently he returned home and spent a number of years in teaching school in Nassagaweya and Nelson. He then bought a farm in Trafalgar, near Oakville, where the later years of his life were spent. He was an active christian worker in the church of his choice - the Methodist - in which he continued an honored and consistent member until his death. Mr. Husband took an active interest in the community and for a number of years represented Trafalgar township in both the local and county councils. In June, 1894, he was chosen as the standard bearer for the Liberal party in the general election for the Legislative Assembly. He opposed Col. Kerns in a keen contest, made an excellent run, but was defeated by 121 votes. Mr. Husband was a brother of Mr. Henry Husband, who has for the past thirty years been the principal of Oakville public school.- Featured Link
