Death of Mrs. Christina McPhail.
Peacefully there fell asleep yesterday morning, at her home on Willow street, a mother beloved, and a neighbor highly esteemed, in the person of Mrs. Christina McPhail, widow of the late William McPhail, of Manilla[?], and mother of Miss C. McPhail, teacher of the second department of Acton Public School. Though in old age, Mrs. McPhail enjoyed good health until early in November, and was not confined to her bed until the 13th December. During her illness her daughters and other friends ministered to her wants with tender affection and life closed in sweet and confiding peace. Christina McCollom was a native of Argylshire, Scotland, and came to Canada with her parents, five sisters and two brothers, when a child. The family settled in Trafalgar township, near Streetsville. In 1857 she was married to her late husband, Mr. Wm. McPhail, and the following thirty years were then spent in Ontario and Victoria Counties. Mr. McPhail was a public school teacher, but the closing years of his life were spent as an agent of the Bible Society. The three children, William H. of Montreal; Sarah, of New York, and Catharine, of Acton, all survive their parents. Twelve years ago Miss McPhail secured a situation on the teaching staff of Acton Public School, and she and her mother settled in Acton. Mrs. McPhail was of a sweet quiet disposition and was beloved by all who knew her. Since childhood she was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a consistent Christian. Miss McPhail will feel most keenly the loss sustained in her mother's death. The tenderest sympathy of all is extended to herself and the other members of the family. A brief service will be held at the home this evening and the remains will be conveyed to Cannington for interment by the 6.35 train tomorrow morning.
