OBITUARY
MRS. PETER McNABB
Mrs. McNab passed away somewhat suddenly last Friday at midnight at the family residence on Mill Street, opposite the Methodist Church. While her health had not been rugged for several years she has been able to be about the home and on Tuesday was preparing to go to Berlin to visit her sister for a few days before she left on a trip to Bermuda. She was taken ill that day with a severe cold and gradually grew worse until the end came. Mrs. McNab was a daughter of the late James Monteath, and was born in Alloway, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. She came to Canada with her parents who settled in Lower Canada. Over fifty years ago she came to Acton from Georgetown, Quebec, as the bride of the late P. H. Corrigill, who was one of our early merchants and transacted business in a block of stores which stood where Knox Church is now situated. Back in the sixties Mr. and Mrs. Corrigill moved to Cheltenham and a year or so later to Elmira, N.Y., where Mr. Corrigill died. Mrs. Corrigill returned to Acton and on the 3rd March, 1880, married Peter McNab, the sorrowing husband who survives her. Miss Annie, who has been a most faithful daughter and companion, feels the death of Mrs. McNab very keenly. To her especially the sympathy of the community is extended. Mrs. McNab was a woman of queenly character, and lovable disposition. She was a devout Christian and a member of Knox Church. Of her father's family only two sisters, Mrs. H. J. Hall, of Berlin, and Miss Monteath, Toronto survive. The funeral on Monday was largely attended and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. C. Wilson, B.A., who spoke in tender and appreciative words of her life and character. The remains were interred in Fairview Cemetery.
