OBITUARY
MRS. ROBERT THOMPSON
A slight stroke of paralysis following many years of failing health, resulted in the passing away of Margaret Ritchie, widow of the late Robert Thompson, on Tuesday, December 16th, at the home of her son, John Thompson, lot 22, con. 1, Esquesing. Deceased was a daughter of the late Robert Ritchie and was born at Waterdown in 1840. When but a child she came with her parents to Nassagaweya. In 1862 she married her late husband and they settled at Cargill's Mills. Thirty-three years ago they moved to the farm where she died. Her husband predeceased her ten years ago. There were seven children in the family all of whom survive: William, John and James and Miss Maggie in Esquesing; Joseph and Mrs. John Moore, in Guelph; and Mrs. Thos. Webb, Eden Mills. They were all at their mother's bedside when she passed away. During the years of her active life Mrs. Thompson was a hard-working woman, and a kind obliging neighbor. She was for many years a member of Knox Church, Acton. The funeral on Thursday, 18th, was conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. C. Wilson, B.A. Six of her old friends and neighbors acted as pall bearers: Messrs. Alexander Waldie, Thomas Arthurs, Thomas Storey, William Mullin, John Stalker and Duncan McDougall. The remains were laid at rest in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Acton.
