IN MEMORIAM
JOHN ALLEN
The eldest of the four sons of the late Joseph Allen, of the second line, Erin, a stalwart character in this community for many years, passed away on the 2nd inst., at his home on Lake Avenue. John Allen was born on the Erin and Eramosa town line in 1851, and the whole of his sixty-two years of life were spent in this vicinity. Thirty-five years ago he was joined in holy wedlock to Rebecca Sewell, a daughter of the late Robert Sewell, of Rockwood. Three sons and three daughters blessed the home as follows: Sarah Delfla, who died when two-and-a half years of age; Charles and Mrs. W. R. E. Blair, Acton; Joseph, of Owen Sound, Alvinna and John at home. During the early years of their wedded life Mr. and Mrs. Allen lived on the second line; about fifteen years ago they moved to a farm on the first line. From there they came to Acton to the home purchased some time previously, in December, 1917. Mr. Allen was a man of few words, but of sterling character. He was from early manhood a member of the Methodist Church at Siloam, and transferred his membership to Acton when he removed here. The funeral on Friday afternoon was conducted by Rev. I. M. Meyer, Miss Bertie Smith sang very sweetly an impressive solo. Interment was made at Fairview Cemetery. The following friends from a distance attended: Mrs. William Waterworth, Robert Waterworth and Leonard Campbell, of Toronto; David Sewell and Ellis Sewell of Rockwood; Robert Sewell, Guelph; and Wilson Campbell, Erin. The pall bearers chosen before his death were his three brothers, Robert, Joseph and William Allen, Robert Wansbrough, John Leishmann and Donald Currie.
