- Description
- This photograph was taken for the Town of Oakville in 1975. It shows the intersection (or corners) of Dundas (Highway 5) and Old Bronte Rd (Highway 25). The photographer is just east of Bronte Road, looking west along Dundas Street. At the time, there was no "Old Bronte Road" - just Bronte Road or Hwy.25.
The gas station on the northwest corner is still there, as is the old Inn next to it (the white building). The old inn was Lawrence Hager’s third home. The partially seen store on the west side of Bronte Road south of Dundas on the left of the picture is the Palermo general store, run by donor Eva Nussey from 1972 – 1975. - Notes
- Early land registry records and Trafalgar census records from 1851, 1871, 1881 use the family surname spelling, "Hagar". However, the 1861 census and the family gravestones in the Palermo cemetery use the spelling "Hager". Please research under both spellings.
