C. J. Dornes, 52, formerly manager of Paul Schroeder's real estate office near Wilmette and Greenleaf avenues, Wilmette, and later manager of Mr. Schroeder's north shore office near the Linden avenue elevated station in Wilmette, was killed in an automobile accident early Wednesday morning, June 19, near St. Augustine, Fla. Mr. Dornes at one time lived at 516 Linden avenue, Wilmette.

With Frank J. Pepper, president of the Miami Real Estate board, and Kenneth S. Keyes, also a realtor, Mr. Dornes was on his way to Savannah, Ga., to board a boat for Boston to attend the annual convention of the National Association of Realty Boards. Keyes' automobile, in which the three men were riding, collided with a truck. Pepper, who was driving the car, also was killed, and Keyes, who was asleep in the back seat at the time of the accident, was taken to the Flagler Memorial hospital in St. Augustine with five broken ribs. The truck driver also is in the hospital with serious injuries.

Mr. Dornes, who had been in the real estate business for thirty years, was a native of Iowa. After about twelve years' residence in Denver he moved to Chicago, where he lived several years before moving to Miami in December, 1924. Mr. Dornes established the Dornes Realty company in Miami, later becoming a partner in the firm of Dornes and Schubert there and a member of the executive committee of the Miami Realty board.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Catherine Dornes, who is vice president of the Dade County (Fla.) Federation of Woman's clubs and president of the All States Card club in Miami; his son and business associate, Cletus J. Dornes; a brother, Fred Dornes, of Dubuque, Iowa; and three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Clemens, of Dyersville, Iowa, Mrs. William Stager, of Dubuque, and Mrs. Clara Bailey of Jamestown, N. D.

Funeral services for Mr. Dornes were conducted Saturday morning, June 22, at 9:30 o'clock in the Gesu Catholic church, Miami, of which Mr. Dornes was a member. Burial took place at the Woodlan Abbey mausoleum in that city.
