Funeral services for Riley E. Swart, 91-year-old Civil war veteran, who died on Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur G. Stanten, 1014 Pontiac road, were held Wednesday afternoon in the chapel at 3176 North Clark street, Chicago. Burial was at Graceland cemetery. Mr. Swart served throughout the Civil war as a member of the 13th Wisconsin volunteers. Born at Sydney, N.Y., he came to Chicago more than seventy years ago. He had lived in Wilmette for the past year. At the close of the Civil war Mr. Swart entered the contracting business. He was prominent in Masonic affairs and was the oldest living member of Oriental lodge, No. 33, A.F. and A.M. He also was a member of Chicago commandery No. 19, Knights Templar; Ayrian council, R. and S. M., and Washington chapter, R. A. M. Besides the daughter in Wilmette, he is survived by four other daughters, Mrs. George E. Brown of Seattle, and Mrs. G. W. Lawton, Mrs. A. A. Fredricksen and Mrs. A. W. Stewart, all of Chicago, and by three sons, David of Spokane, Wash., Edward of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and William of Michigan City, Ind.
