Description
This type of musket was produced by the British government from circa 1793-1815 and would have been used during the War of 1812.

A long gun, 54 1/2 inches from stock to butt. The stock and butt of the gun are carved from walnut. The long barrel is metal and runs 39 inches long.

There is a metal cock that is a swan neck style. The metal trigger has a brass tirgger guard.

On the underneath of the stock are brass ramrod guides (no ramrod). There is a brass plate on the end of the butt of the gun.

The metal breech is stamped with a crown and the letters G.R. underneath, as well as the word tower. On the opposite side of the stock the letters J.P. have been carved into the wood.

This musket is a late Land Pattern and pre-1809 India Pattern Lock, and is also a flintlock.

The bayonet is a 22 inch long, dark brown blade with a socket, all of metal. The blade is flat on top then narrows to a point underneath to form a triangular shape. The socket is a hollow cylinder with an S-shaped slot to fit over the barrel. A crown is stamped into the top of the blade. The stamp is a London proof mark.
