Brighton Cenotaph
World War I, The Unveiling of the War Memorial
Two especially significant events occurred in Brighton on September 18, 1927 - the unveiling of the War Memorial and the dedication of Memorial Park. The Municipality of Brighton had completed its work of erecting a cenotaph to honour its fallen soldiers. Sir Arthur Currie, the former commander of the Canadian Corps during World War I, dedicated the cenotaph.

Sir Currie, military, civic leaders and Brighton citizens observantly attended the solemn ceremonies in Memorial Park. The community gathered in steadfastness to recognize the valour of its fallen soldiers. Both the cenotaph and the park permanently preserved the memory of the men who fought during World War I for the ideals of democracy and freedom.
