- NewOhoicelines ---o--.;__,. Lethbridge, N W. ·T. I ask the privilege th .mgh you~ very valuable paper of letting my Da!lmgton friends know how I am. The climate of the North West Prairie i very healthy, :i:s I have proven. Yye l" ve had a very fine Rummer so far, show·ira have been frequent. The last week has been very hot, the thermometer reaching 90 deg. in the shade. The crops are ahead of last year's, and harvest 1s nearly over. Lethbridge, my present station is about 800 miles west of Winnipeg, and is con· mct..d from Dunmore on the C. P. R. by the North-West Coal and Navigation Company's narrow gaugerailway, distance 109 miles. This Company has large coal mines here whiph employ a large number of men, making the town which has a population of about 1200, quite a lively place. There are many new buildings going up. Wages are very good, laborers getting from $2.00 to $2.50 per day. Boa.rd from $4 to $5.00 a week. The police havfl a detachment of 100 men stationed here in a fine barracks built a year ago at a cost of $35.000. The Belly rher flows past here with its icy watsr from the snow capped Rocky Mountains whose peaks can be seen distinctly rising to the Aky some 100 miles away. Altogether Lethbridge · c1u1 put to shame man,y eastern towns of its size for business. · I am quite taken up with the Prairie West. I extend to my many friends xny best wish( s, and would like to hear from some. 0 j ( l\fiss .M~llie Hassard hiu gone to Whitby Ladies College for a term.
