Afflicted witb asthia. NIr. Oke had been on a visit to friends in Saskatchewan, where climatic conditions usually re- lieved him. He was on his, home- ward journey wvhen taken seriously iii and left the train at Souris. Man., wbere a brother resides. Upon re- ceiving word. 'Mrs Oke lef for Sour-i is. arriving Wednesday evening, but too late to see him alive. The reinains were brought to Lakeport, wbere funeral sevices were conducted by Rev. R. McCullough, on Sunday afternoon. Interment took place in Lakeport Cemetery. Besides his wife he leaves a sonl and a daugbter, Harry and Irene at home. For them the sympathy of the community is feit in their unexpect-' ed bereavement Mr&. Thot. Trick, Norwood, Man. Nellie Jane Ferguson Trick, wife of Thomas Trick, 424 Edgewood St., Norwood, Man., died at St. Boniface hospital Saturday, Sept. 18th. after a protracted illness in her 65th year. She had been resident in the districti 22 years. Born in Wales, she came to Canada with her parents as a girl of 10 years. The family settled in Bowmanville, Ont.. and it was at that town tbat she was married to Mr. Trick. Mrs. Trick was a devout and active member of the Methodisti body, having been associated with the Norwood church, of which she had been a leading member of the Ladies' Aid as well as a teacher of the girls in the Sunday schooL She is survived by ber husband and a son, James. The funeral was held Tues- day afternoon fromn the Gardiner funeral home. Interment in Elm- wood cemetery.-Winnipeg Free Press. H. Maynard founder of the firm of Maynard & Sons, pioneer auctioneers of Victoria passed away on Saturday, September 11, at bis re-sidence, 1003 Carberry Gardens. Born at Bude, Cornwall, England, in 1852, wbere is family were old establîsbed stock, be was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Maynard. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. R. Maynard came to& Bowmanville, Ontario, and in 1859 Mr. Maynard came west during the Fraser River gold excitement. In 1862 be re- turned for bis family, and brougbt them here by way of the Isthmus of Panama. Tbey established a photo- graphic bouse, the first bere, Mrs. Maynard engaging in the art, and later beiirg joined by ber busband. The late Mr. G. Hl. Maynard was educa:led at the school of John Jes- sop and was apprenticed to the bus- iness of a baker. This was witb the Hodges Bakery, then iocated at thel corner of Dougas Street and Pan-1 dora Avenue. However, he turned to the craft of bis father, who had estabiished a shoemaking firm here,ý and this be conducted on Fort St.*: on the site of the Winch Building, for a number of years. About twenty years ago Mr. May- nard started the successful auction- eering connection which bas become an important local business,, first witb the Eaton Company, then when bis son, A. J. Maynard, jnined him, under the present titie. They have been successively at Broad Street,l Vie wStreet and the present location, Pandora Avenue, G. H. Maynard, thel youngest son, now also is identified' witb the business. Mr. Maynard was an entbusiastic gardene. The famiy are the %Nidow,Frd- ick George, William Joseph, Albertj James and George Hamnmett, sns*, Miss Laura Lillian Mgynard, mrs.l J. B. Sewell and Mrs. H. H. Mac-ý donald, daughters.
