Bell Gave Instructive Talk -Members of Port Hope Club Aidai on Program Ed.tor's Note - The Statesman Prides ltself on glving accurate and! dependable news of the community, but occasionally mistakes creep into its columns. Such was the case two weeks ago in our report of the Music Study Club's December meeting i which several mistakes and omissions occurred which have since been drawn to our attention. We are therefore very glad to give a more extended and correct report of this very entertaining and proflbable meeting. Regular monthly meeting of the Music Study Club was held December 3rd, i St. Paul's Lecture Room. The meeting opened with the siagir.g of 0 Canada, led by Miss Helen Marris at the piano. The president, Mrs. Cecil H. Dudley, welcomed the large audience present, af ter which the general business was transacted. Mrs. J. Clark Bell presented the second chapter of the Study Book entitled "Scales." Mrs. Bell gave ai vcry instructive blackboard lesson showing the formation of ail major, minor and chromatic scales. Tis lesson was mndeed helPful to ail pres- cnt and showed Mrs. BeUl's capabil- ity as a clever music teacher and in- iructress in this art. The program was in charge ef the Port Hope Club. Mrs. H. L. Reeve, president. expressed her regrets that so many members were 111 and could not be present to assist on the pro- gram. However. the five who came presented the following: Miss Tuer gave a very interesting address on the Passion PlaY which she was priv- ileged to witness last summer while ini Europe. Mrs. Bennett sang a beautiful selection from the sacred cantata "Olivet to Calvary" accomp- anied by Miss Gladys Black. Mr. Bey. George in splendid voice rend- ered Gounod's "There is a Green Hill Far Away", also that favorite solo "John the Baptist." accompan- ied by Miss Jessie Hawkins. Sever- al hymnns were sung that were used at thc presentation of the Passion Play, by the members, which brought to a close a delightful program. It was a Iovely story of the ic eof Christ fromn beginning to end andi everyonc present envied Miss Tuer' her wonderful experlence in witness- ing this marvelous Play. A vote of thanks to ail assisting on the program was moved by Miss Greta Wickett and seconded by Mrs. D. W. Best and heartlly approved by the Bowmanville Club. Meeting closed with the singtng of the Nat- ional Anthem. TRINITY YOUNG PEOPLE Trinlty Young People's Society meeting was hcld on Monday, Dec. Mt,i the Sunday school room. Meeting was in charge of the Liter- ary and Music group of whlch Miss1 Daisy Clarke is convener. Devotion- al perlod was takten by Miss Vesta Spargo and Rev. W. A. Bunner. Pro- gramn was as follows: Duet-Nelle and May Martin; vocal solo-Mrs. G. E. Pritchard; piano solo-Evelyn Pickard; toplc, "'The Advent 9tory" was given by Mrs. Muriel Symons and was exceptlonaily good. HAMPTON W. C. T. U. Hampton W. C. T. Knox and Miss Kat- erson were appointed as a committee to look after program for medal con- test prises. Mrs. T.
