Mrs. Gordon Ash has been home sick from her school at Rouge His. Sgt. George G. Dawbcr, R.A.F., and Mrs. Dawber (the former Vivian Duck ) are gucats of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Duck. PO Tom Brereton, R.C.A.F., and Mrs. Brereton are home on fur- lough from Portage La Prairie, Man. Pte. Leonard Lambert was home from Ipperwash Camp. Mrs. Percy Hare was in Toronto. Miss Marilyn Enwright is the new clerk in A. E. Mellow's drug store. Mrs. Stanley Brown entertained her Bridge Club on Thursday eve- ning. Miss Barbara Bonathan visited her sister, Miss Ruth Bonathan in Toronto. Miss Mary Toms entcrtained several of her school friends on Saiurday evening. Pty. Officer Fred Lake and Mrs. Lake and children were guests of Mrs. Frank Gibson. Bdr. Brenton Rickard w a s home. A.B. Samuel Brenton is home on furlough from St. John, N.B. Stoker No. 1 Jamie Wright was home. Miss Marilyn Enwright visited ini Toronto and Ajax. Mr. James T. Brown who has been seriously ill is slowly im- proving. Mrs. Garnet Porter and Mrs. Sam Cowan entertained at bridge on Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Fred Cowan, Sr. There was a good attendance at tic Board of Management dance in the Community Hall, Friday e-,cning. W.O. Richard Anderson and his bride, the former Miss Lorene Johnson of Oshawa, returned from their honcymoon on Friday and spent the week-end with his mother, Mis. Stella Anderson. Miss Beatrix Mclntosh was hos- tess at a buffet luncheon and bridge on Monday. 0 Mr. Wesley Glenney fell off his verandah roof while cleaning off Uic snow but luckily escaped scr- jous injury by landing on a snow bank. Miss Ethel Spencer and friend were homne. Miss Ethel Lockhart has return- ed home after spending a month with relatives in Markham Town- ship. A full account of the Newcastle United Church annuai Congrega- tional Meeting will appear next week. W. Bros. J. E. W. Phiip, T. W. Jackson and T. F. Branton were presented with life memberships by Durham Lodge, No. 66, A.F. & AMon Feb. 6th. The presenta- tions were made by Right W. Bro. W. F. Rickard and were in recog- nition of their having reachcd three score and fifteen years. This is not a Masonic tradition but juat a custom of this Lodge whenever a Brother attains 75 years of age and over. Newcastle hockey team played Maple Grove Friday night, score 4-3 for Newcastle. Newcastle Public School hockey team piaycd No. 9 and Brown's on Thursday evening, score 6-5 in favor of visiting team. Annuai Vestry Meeting St. George's Anglican Church Annual Vestry meeting of St. George's Church, Newcastle, was held in the Parish Hall on Wed- nesday evening, Feb. 7. The rector, Rev. Douglas Dewdney, presided and conducted the opening devo- tional exercises. The rector in his report stated that the mission allotmcnt had been paid in full and that ail var- ious funds connected with the Church were in a very healthy condition. He thanked ahi those who had worked for the Church in 1944 and mentioned cspecially the splendid work of the teachers ini the Sunday Schooi. There had been 5 births, 3 marriages and 7 deaths during the past year, one the death of a former Church Warden, Joseph P. Couison. We also lost through death Thomas Spencer who had been connected wth St. George's Church for a great many years. Harold Gibson, Vestry Clerk, read the minutes of last year's annual meeting. Howard Gibson, People's War- den, presented the financial state- ment of the Church Warden, showing receipta of $1,466.58. Cecii Horrocks, Rector's Warden, pre- sented the Allotment Collection report. The Olive Wilmot San- ford Trust Fund; the Wellington Foster Rectory Trust Fund; the Robert Mcîntosh Memorial Fund statements were read by the Rector. The Montague Endow- ment was inciuded in the Church Warden's statement. The Treasurers of the Women's Auxiliary, Parochial Committee, W.A. Evening Branch, Junior W.A., Church Altar Guild and the Men's Club presented their fînancial reports and ail reported a vcry succesaful year. The Sun- day Schooi statement was read by Mrs. Matthew Brown, teacher of the Primary Clasa, whosc unfail- ing intereat and zeal is responsible for the large enrolîment and at- tendance in the Primary Class. The St. George's and Bond Head Cemetery statements wcre pre- sented by Cecii Horrocks, Sec'y- Treas. of the Cemetery Board. Af ter 14 ycars faithful service as People's Warden, Howard Gibson tendered his resignation, which was regretfully accepted. The Rector again appointed Cecil Horrocks as his Warden and Harold Gibson was elected Peo- ple's Warden. George Crowthers was appointed Vestry Cierk, Law- rence Gaines, Okiairman of Sides- men. Lay members to Synod are David Gibson and George Crowthers. Members of Parish Council are: Mrs. D. B. Simpson, Mrs. Scott Howard, Miss Cora Butler, Mrs. Neilson. The C.G.I.T. meeting, Feb. 6, was held at the home of Mrs. George Rickard. The meeting opened with C.G.I.T. Purpose and Motto, foilowed by C.G.I.T. hymn. Marjorie Toms led in worship period.
