Sixteen girls, pupils in Princi- pal Frank McMullen's room in Newcastle public sehool, have launched a new projeet, that of Home Helpers' Club. Thirteen of the girls volunteer to stay with children at night so their parents may take advantage of any social activities. Their fee is 50c fmom 7:30 to 11:30, with an extra charge of 35c per hour after 11:30. Thmee of the girls who are under 12 years of age are available for Sa- turday afternoon duty only. In addition each of the girls will also stay one Sunday a month with children free so as to allow par- ents to attend divine worship. A list of the girls' names also the mules they have drawn up is post- ed on the bulletin board in the Community Hall. Anyone wish- ing to avail themselves of this vemy excellent and commendable scheme is advised to get in touch with Principal McMullen. "Wib" had an interesting time overseas and his stories of England, France, Holland and Germany will make worthwhile conversation among his wide group of friends through- out the district for many weeks. We, on behaif of the community, welcome him home to the family group again. The community e.xtends a very hearty welcome home to Pte. Roy Foster, son of Mrs. Mary Foster, who has arrived home after ser- ving in the 'European theatre of war. Pte. Poster brought honor to his native village by being awarded the Military- Medal for gallant action in the battle around Caen. Citizens of Newcastle and district join in saying a glad wel- corne home to this very brave and gallant soldier. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Howard, Toronto, spent the weekend with Mrs. Scott Howard. Mr. Allan Howard who is inspector of Sou- thern Agenicies for the Confeder- ation Life Assurance Co., has just returned from Venezuela, South America.
