The Y.P.U. met Monday, Nov. 25th with the Christian Culture Convener, Mrs. Morley Sallows in charge of -the pragram. The wo.c- ship period was taken by Evelyn Allin. The featulre of the pragramr was 16 pictures in ail, water color, black and white pen and ink sketches and embroidery pictures which were borrowed from pri - va.te -homes in town and a11 dne Blackstock On Thursday evening Nov. 28 a most enjoyable evening was spent at the Community Hall in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crawford (nee Bessie Edgerton). The hall was filled to capacity and many beautiful gifts were given ta the happy young couple. We were first entertained by Rev. John McKibbin and Mrs. McKibbin with skits entitled "Old-Fashioned Proposal" and "Modern Proposal" which were both humorous and well given. Then followed a program in the form of a radio program with quiz questions. Rev. McKibbin, Chas. Venning and Gilbert Mar- low conducted this part. A lovely solo was givern by Mrs. Lorne Thompson and also Mrs. McKibbin. Little Lloyd Wil- son only four years old. capti- vated the audience singing two popular sangs. After the formal presentation of the gifts Harold and Bessie thanked everyone very graciously. A bountiful lunch was served, then Ruth Wilson, Herman Wilson and Clark Williams played for danc- ing. Everyone joins in wishing much happiness to the bride and groom. The slides presented in the Hall on Wed. evening Nev. 27 by the Health Unit were very much enjoyed. This is a once a month feature and everyone is asked ta attend if possible. St. John's congregation met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hamilton on Fni. evening for their program of slides by Rev. McKibbin. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen G. Say- well had their infant daughter, Susan Margaret baptized at the, United Church by Rev. R. B. Harrison Sunday evening. Miss Gwenyth Marlow, Tor- onto was home last week. Miss Winnie Swain, Toronto with her parents Mr. and. Mrs. Lewis Swain. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Dawson and Sandra, Windsor returned home after visiting at Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Bailey's. Church Service at St. John's Anglican Church is now being held Sunday afternoon. Congratulations are extended ta Harold Farder for his success in being high man in the Junior Durham County competian at Orona and Hampton. Allan Werry second place and Glenn Farmer third. In the Senior campetition Boyd and Lloyd Ayre, who recently judged at the Royal Winter Pair on the Dominion judging team took first and second place. Howard Farder, Blackstock, third place. More than 30 Senior and Junior contestCnts took part in the event which included reg- istration at Orono Town Hall af- ter which practical judging took place on various district farms during the forenoon. After lunch the boys adjourned to Hampton where oral reasons were given and coaches, including Agricul- tural Representative E. A. Sum- mers, summarized the results and the prizes were awarded.
