Holds District Meet v I j f Orono News On December 10, Bowman-I ville and Maple Grove Women's nstitutes met in the church at vlaple Grove te carry out a pro- ject of co-operative programs in West Durham District. Mrs. Clarence Hayes, Georgetown, was the Instructor f rom. the Depart- ment cf Agriculture and those n attendance spent a" profitable afternoon in the study of corn- nunity enterprises. Cultural projects which stimulate and enrich the m.ind are a recognized need and recreation and a re- turn te home and community ife is a post-war necessity. One group cf women fouuid a ready market in New York for hand woven fabrics, one woman nade suiting on a- largé loom. The development of handicrafts of a like nature was stressed. Other suggestions as hobbies were choral singing, orchestral work and the study of dramatics and collecting of plants. A community library is need- ed in every community as it was felt that the people shoul be kept informed and up-to-date, te live under a government which is cf the people and by the people. The nation being made up cf large and small communities al citizens in a community should understand each other and work to-gether on worth while things in a co-operative manner in or- der to have a well knit com- munity life and hence a strong and powerful nation. At the conclusion of the dis- cussion Mrs. Fred Stevens, Maple Grove, Seconded by Mrs. L. S. Dumas Bowmanville, moved a vote of appreciation to Mrs. Hayes for hier splendid interpre- tation of her subject and for the many fine suggestions she left with her audience. i i i i i Thursday evening iast there was an important meeting of ~ Orono Lodge A.F. and A.M. when . District Deputy Grand Master, Rt. W. Bro. R. V. Mowbray,> Brooklin, was on his officia~ visit. In response to, the toast to Grand Lodge, proposed by W. Bro. R. E. Logan, he spoke on the value cf Masenry and its teaching, and complimented O r- anc Lodge on the work they had ' put on. The brass quartette consisting cf Bros. Jas. C. Tamb- lyn, Carlos Tamblyn, Donald Hamm and Horace Best, gave some splendid numbers and a bountiful supper rounded out an enjoyable evening. Mr. Cliffard Cooper is under- going treatment in Christie St. Hospital. Mrs. W. J. Marlyn is spending the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Orme Falls, Starkviiie. Messrs. W. A. Reid and J. J.
