When this donation carne in, we'sensed a story and interviewed the parents ta find out the background. Ap- parently, the whole idea was Barbara's and was nat just a hand- out frarn her Dad and Mam. Bar- bara carne ta thern after reading about the Arena and after several visits ta the spot where it is under construction and asked if she rnight draw same of ber savings aut of the bank ta help building fund. She thought it was gaing ta be wonderful when she cauld go skating and could even learn fancy skating and she wanted ta help. With spirit like this arnong aur children, there is little doubt that the Arena will be campleted. IMr. J. C. Samis, Carlisle Ave., Bowmanville, Ont. Dear Cliff: For saine time now, I have been following. with a great deal of interest, the publicity being given the Memorial Rink Project in Bowmnanville. I must conîfess ta having been a skeptic in this re- gard. I neyer really believed the project would reach the stage when I shauld see an architect's drawing of the intended structure. Looking back, I can recali some very bitter memaries of the pre- war years. A certain graup of young fellows banded together ta form a Young Men's Club, and, guided by aur aid friend, Forbes Hyland, started out ta do big, things for the youth of Bawman- ville. Many of the unpieasant things that happened in those days have since been forgotten. I do believe we falded up in the end,- owing Cea. W. James a few dollars )0 Mr. and Mns. James -- 10,00 ' home town. They don't bave any idea what's in store for them once this Arena is in aperation. Now I'm convinced that there are actually some people in Bow- manville who have an eye ta the future. I feed certain at last, that Bowmanville is embarked an a worthwhile prai ect, and intends seeing it through ta a finish. H-ats off ta those community- mînded citizens wha have worked so liard, for s0 littie, for toa long. I note with much interest, that many o! those warking in the in- terests of the project were mrem- bers o! aur ill-fated Club. Like the writer, a good many of thern are getting a littie thin "up top." I'mi glad ta see that they are tak- ing the initiative in. a project whose potential value ta the com- munity cannot be estimated. This is solid cammunity plan- ning for the future. 1 hope the planning doesn't stop at the Mem- anial Arena - or before the roof 15 on. Please find encloscd aur check for $10.00.
