BOWMANVILLE ROTARY associated math the CLUB ONTARJO SOCIETY FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN OPENS THEIR ANNUAL eal Campaign TrO-DAY ..TO Yaur Maney The needy crippied chid is a challenge to the Bowmanvjlle Rotary Club. Down through the years this challenge has been met and in most cases it lias been conquered. Some of the littie patients while flot compietelv cured have been helped greatly. In ail cases the benefit of the best surgeons and physicians are made available to these children and when they are needed the services of Sick Children's Hospital are arranged for by the Bowmianvjlle Rotary Club. Members of the Rotary Club have piaced themselves at the disposai of a committee that arranges that any child that needs to go to a liospitai is transported by a member of the Club. In niany cases these trips take the member from bis business for a day at a time. In a year this accounts for many days and miles spent in travelling, ail at the expense of the Rotary member. Cases are reported to the Rotary Club in many ways, by parents, friends, Heaith Unit nurses and by Rotarians them- selves. Ail requests for aid are scrutinized by the Çrippled Chidren's Committee of the Rotary Club before any action is taken and in this way ail the circumstances surrounding the case are known and can be dealt witli in an intelligent manner. Wlien the Rotary Club accepts a crippied child as a patient al expenses and details are then taken from the parents' shoulders and are assumed by the Rotary Club. Durîng th'e past year the Rotary Club lias been .called upon for aid in a variety of ways. We just mention a few of the more interesting cases to let you know how your money is being spent. One of our eariy patients liad the misfortune to lose ail bis ciothes and his ieg brace in a tragic lire that completely destroyed bis home. This same boy since the Rotary Club lias been iooking after him becanie eligible for Variety Village schlooi in Toronto. However, it was necessary that lie le coni- pletely outfitted witli proper clothes and a new set of leg braces. This was iooked after by the Boimanviile Rotary Club and this young man is now progressing rapidly towards fitting himself for a position in which lie will be self-supporting. - Another exampie of how your money is put to workç is l the case of a young boy, a cerebrai palsy patient. The Rotary Club lias had this young chap under their care for severai years. This year lie was sent to the Cerebrai Paisy Centre at Woodeden Camp near London. Af ter two montlis' stay iast lu, lie re. turned home for Christmas and the improvements astonislied ail those wlio knew him previousiy. We feel that the BowVnianvilie Rotary Club can be justiy proud of the above cases as weii as the other work that the Rotary Club has done for Crippied Chidren.
