As a resuit who was wielding the bat, Iý the locals made their home debut out a dribbler down the a winning one by edging Cobourg' base line to get the bali Legionnaires 2-1. ,uLnder way. Cobourg scored their onl run in that second inning wher with the bases fiiled, Barkhous knocked a long f ly to centre field er Jim Stainton, and scored afte Stainton made the catch. Legre had the bases fîlled once afte that, but the local squad manag cd to retire the visitors with ri more damage than the one run. The Roses evened things in ti third when Tim Cox drew a walk advanced to second, and cami home when Catcher Bob Gaîl ghier hammered a long bail whici dropped between ieft and centri field. Frank Hooper followec with a sharp single but the rail3 was cut off when Gallagher waý out going into third. Bowmanvjlie scored the wir. ning run in the fifth. With twc away Maxie Yourth walked, sto]E second and came home when GaI- lagher hit a long single to centre field. Hooper foliowed withe single which sent Gallagher tc third, but Stainton grounded out to end the splurge at one run. Cobourg could do nothing in their haîf of the sixth and Tim Cox choked off what might have been a raily by the Legionnaires in the top of the seventh by mak- ing a lovely running catch ofa long hard-hit bail to right field slammed out by Gerald Turpin. Legree struck out the next bat- ter and got the third on a weak grounder to the pitcher's box to end the game. Credit for the Bowmanville wir belonged largely to Legree for his steady pitching chore which kept the visitors limited to three hits. Bob Gallagher, the husky receiver of the Roses also had a big hand in the victory, driving in both runs. Roy Falls played a nice game afield and at bat for the winners, knocking out a double and single. Frank (Sonny) Hoop- er had two hits and Jim Gilmer got one.
