PAGE THREE .THU-RSDAY, MAY 28, 198 Cilizeus Now ""Blow a Fuse" AI Councillor Scol's Attitude The Canadian Legion, Braacb No. 178, Bowmanville, Ont. May 26th, 1953. Mr. Geo. W. James, Canadian Statesman, ,owmanville, Ont. Wear George: Enclosed is a copy of a letter whicb was sent ta the Town! Council and is for publication, if you s0 desire. Branch 178 wishes to commend ~he Canadian Statesman, Good- year Tire & Rubber Co. and al othen merchants and firms wbo are observing the Coronation by declaring Cononation Day a Holi- day. Sincerely yours, A. E. Mavia, Secretary. May 26tb, 1953. Mr. A. Lyle, Town Clerk, Bowmanviile, Ont. Dean Sic: On Feb. 23rd, a letter wvas sent to Town Council from this or-, ganization, asking for information with regard to the observance of Coronation Day on June 2nd.- To date no answer has been re- ceived and the Executive of Branch 178 thought it should be a matter of common courtesy ta send a witten reply. Furthermore, according ta in- formation contained in The Can- adian Statesman it would appear that the mai oity of the Town Couacil have turned down a motion ta observe the Coronation 4.' TORC tary grass on& clip j mule Atti chop ingc 7 1 as a Holiday. The Executive Council of Branch 178, Canadiian Legion, B.E.S.L., deplore the attitude of the Council in measuring the traditions of this country in terms of dollars and cents, and feel that such a mercenary attitude is an insult to those of our Com- rades who died defending our traditions and heritage. We ask the Town Counicil to review their stand on the matter and to declare Coronation Day a Public Holiday. Sincerely yours, A. E. Mavin, Secretary. 105 Liberty St. N., Towrt. The Editor, Dear Sir: I cannot understand Coun. Norman Scott "Blowing a Fuse" because of Reeve S. Little's motion that the Mayor proclaim June 2nd a Public Holiday. I think he xvas doing what the citizens of Bowmanville would expect, but it would seemn that iCoun. Norman Scott was think- ing only of S400, and not the people he represents. 1 arn sure our young, Queen would not want him to be out of pocket on bier account. How- ever, thanks a lot to Couns. Little and Cole, and also The Statesman who have once again given a fine lead. But of course they understand the importance of the Day. 1 1 remain, il -A. W. Bowmanville Phone 774 Bowmanvile, Ont. May 25th, 1953. The Editor of Bowmanville Statesman: Was amazed beyond words to nead the front page article re Councillor Scott and Reeve Sid Little. Sidney, oh Sidney, how could you have let us down, thus? I had hoped, and believed, that you would have nealized that until two years ago "The Town of Bowmanville" neyer really had a worthwbile Council. It al- ways lacked a guiding "Màster Mind," and now you simply re- fuse to recognize it, by making a motion to "Spite. Me,*' naughty, spiteful Sidney. You say you did not do this purposely? Then tell me, why did you not watcb cane- fully for the batting of the eye- lids from the "Master Mind?" This could have conveyed ta you bis wishes on this controvensial subject.1 Imagine anyone expecting to celebrate and enjoy a holiday on Coronation Day, and you work for a finm wbo will pay you to do just that, "Hoity-Toity." Sure must be a gôod finm to work for? Well, 1 sort of imagine the "Master Mind" bas been so busy getting our Town sort of Sbip Shape in the past two years that be possibly bas not read that our "Beloved Queen Elizabeth the Second" is going to be Crowned at Westministen Abbey in London on June 2nd, and most of us folks in Bowmanville want to celebrate in joyous festivities this day witb ber. You know Sid, evenyone falîs down once in a wbile and it made me wonder if the Duke of Non- folk, The Earl Marshall, forgot to send Councillor Scott an in- vitation to the Abbey. This couldi account for bis feelings on the subject, but Sidney please be caneful in future not to get the ire of this councillor. If you bring up sometbing in Council, be sure and ask bis permission first, or watch more closely for the batting of bis eyelid, then you migbt know if it is 0K, but don't be spiteful Sidney, you naugbty boy!
