Honton, Warden cf the Un- itpd Counties of Northumber- lanjàand -Durham. A delicious tVy dinner was served by Sth,,ilavan Women's Institute, ass-isted by several ether ladies from the community. Highlight cf the evening was the presentation of a club bag to the Warden and bouquets of flowers to his wife, and mother, Mrs. Robert Hooton. The pres- entations were made by Cavaii Counciflors H. Wladyka cf Port Hope, readings by Mrs. A. Miller, selections by a male quartet, Archie Matcbett, Frazier Carr, Rae Stewart and Russell White with Mrs. Fred Brown accempanying, and solos by Mrs. L. Winslow with ber husband at the piano. Tribute te the fine work cf the ladies was made by F. Bed- ford and responded te by Mrs. Z. M. Bentley. During the evening, it was pointed out by several speak- ers that Cavan bad net been honored with the Wardensbip for the past 26 years when Ex- Wardcn Geo. A. It was held in the form of an auction sale Wed- nesday cf last week at the Lions Centre. Dave Morrison welcomed the Oshawa group on behaif cf the Bowmanville Club and conduct- ed the meeting in excellent fashion. W. N. Affleck, Oshawa, made the highest bid cf he evening. He bid $3.75 for a et cf four coils from 1914 bearing1 the picture cf King George V.: Mr. Affleck said, that the' stamps were worth $5.50 ac- cording te his valuations. Approximately $60 waEt ted by the Bowmanville Club from the auction. Average bids were anywhere fromn 25e te $1.00. Stamps are auctioned in lots varying from one stamP te those which have a hundred or more. Nearly 100 lots were sold during the evening. Three auctioneers conducted the proceedings, they were; Earle Hann, O. J. Presson and W. N. Affleck. After the auction everyene enjoyed refreshments served by Mrs. Hutchinson, Mrs. Cale and Mrs. F. Hellyar cf the Bowmanville Club. Welcoming guests at the deor was Mrs. T. W. Cawker, Pas, President cf the Womnen's Hos- pital Auxiliary, and receiving were Mrs. L. W. Dippeil, Pre- sident, Miss Irene Shaw, Su- perintendent cf Memorial Hos- pital, and Mrs. B. Mutton, Vice- President cf the Auxiliary. Mrs. L. Dewell was convenor for the pleasant event, assisted by Mrs. Aubrey Smith and Mr. L. T. McLaughlin. The tea table formed a pret- ty picture, centred by a lovely bouquet of Iris and daffodils and flanked by yellow tapers. The flowers were the gift cf Mrs. J. H. H. Jury, as is ber custom. The small tea tables had gay centre pieces in spring motif and guests had a friendly time over the delicicus refresbments served. These included a beau- tifully iced birtbday cake, the gift cf Mr. Robert Noble. Mvr. Noble bas made this generous gift each year for some years past. Mrs. Hamilton, Tyrone, cut the cake. McLaughlin, Mrs. Herbert Smith Wins $100 Prize At Lions Bingo Herbert Smith, cf 175 Mary street, Oshawa, won the $100 door prize at the Bowmanville Lions Club monthly bingo at the town hall Seturday even- ing. More then 200 persons at- tended and over $325 was given away in prizes. The jackpot, which was $100, was net won and will be wortb $125 et the next bingo, April 27. M. M. Gerry and Mrs. Joe O'Neill.
