PAGE TWELVEC SPORTOpI>iS Sy F'wank Mohun RA 3-7234 SATURDAY NIGHT - JUVENILE HOCKEY NIGHT The Lakeshore Juvenile Hockey achedule hem just been released, and appears elsewhere on the sports page. Ail local home games will be played on Saturday nightsaet 8:30 pin. The league opener saw Bowmanville take a lop-sided 13-4 wln over Stouffville, here, Saturday. The an]y exception ta night gaines will be on Boxing Day, Saturday, Dec. 26th, when Port Hope wilfl visit the locals for an afternoon contest at 2:30. This will be Bowmanville's third straight home gaine, as Uxbridge is et the Memorial Arene, this Saturday night. Five of the remalning elght games are on the road, with the home dates, on consecutive Saturdays. A new and interesting innovation has been edded-e three star selection immediately following the garnes - Only thing lacking are the TV cameras. t t ti.t *I ANOTHER TOP BOWLING EFFORT Last week we mentioned the highest single game rolled in town this year, but we neglected ta give Bil Hearle credit for an 867 triple, which we believe was the hlghest three game total of the bowling season. However, Bill's high score didn't last too long, as AI "Goose" Osborne rolled games of 251, 313 and 313 iast Wednesday night to register an 877 triple. Al's effort gave hil-n a 246 average, tops for the Men's Major League, and elso any other league for that matter. Nevertheless, you really have ta hand it ta the Saturday afternoon teenage bow]ers, who corne up with some excellent scores during the schedule. For the second straight week, a teenager went over 800, this time an 802 total by Don Bagneli. Don rolledl 249, 314 and 239 for his triple. t t t t t BASEBALL BANQUET We understand that a banquet honouring Bowmanvllle Olympias - Juvenile basebaîl champs for Ontario, will be hield on Jan. 6th. Further details wlll be available next week. e~s ,îij~r r:s;:u:; ~ er;;:: : > CH RISTMAS F Bill Steven 9 0 a HAS CHANGED It does ne gad ta comment, as so many do at his turne of year, on how much our Christmas has changed. The candies on our trees are* now electrical (and thereby much safer) and the carols are more likely te come frein a three-speed Shonograph (and will, theref are, e' mare musical, if flot more dedi- cated, than our own efforts). lývbli 11cUli I do net regret, really, that aur Christmas has changed. For Whatever havoc pro- gress has wreaked on this day of Christ, it remains stili a day that stands out in eoach year as bright as the star that shone over Bethlehemn We mark aur mileposts by aur Christinases. We remember the new flivver the family got because it was used for the happy occasion of Christ- mas, or we remember how good a cook our mother was because she excelled at Christmas. And ail the uncles and aunts and cousins and nephews (some of thein fun and some of themn unbearable) fit into our memories because we remember them from Christmases. Mesnory is among our great treasures and no mechanical contrivance can ever take its place as a source of pleasure. Christmnas, as the focal poilit of memory, can neyer be changed fundamenwally despite the gnawing away at uts spirit by the grow- ing commercialism. Memory, made of Christx-ases, is brighter than any string of lights, sweeter than any wine and more beautiful than any phonograph. In wish- ing al aur friends a Merry Christmas, therefore, we are wishing you ail another day that will soon become a pleasant and mellow memory! Another Addition ta Robson's Service Dept.
