The fans w~ho expected either Stirling Moss, Olivier Gendebien or one of the two Rodriguez brothers to pull off the victory were literally roaring with excitement and pleasure as Ryan made it, despite a one-minute penalty. Here, they have hoisted him on their shouiders to showv their admiration of hîs superb oq iving. The event wvas organized by the British Empire Motor Club and drew ire than 1-7,000 paying customers, 'which means there probably were over 35,000 in attendance. ÇBits and' fkteces GREEN THUMB-Julia Bell, 11-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bell, Liberty St. South, must have a green thumb. She pianted a potato sprout last Spring and reaped a real harvest recently, a 6 quart basket of perfect potatoes, the largest weighing about three pounds. AMAZING DISPLAYS -Cîtizens are reminded that the officiai opening of Bowmanviile's Museum xiii take place on Friday evening. The Editor visited thc museum early this week to find several ladies working hard trying to prepare the most interesting collections of ahl types of articles. Severai out-of-town visitors, f amiliar with museums, have been amazed at the hundreds of items already collected by the local organization. We guarantee that young and old wiil find the museum most interesting. i. t t t t. POOR RESULTS - The Lions Ciub's expeniment of trying to operate several carnival booths at Mosport on Friday and Saturday did flot pay off too well for severai reasons. The over 30,000 people wcre interested oniy in the races and were so spread out that many didn't even know a carnival was in progress. On Fniday night, it was too cold and the 3,000 who were camping in the park were interested in their own parties. Incidentally, Mosport officiais are stili looking for the characters who built a bon-fire on the track and nearlyv ruined it for th e big rac es. t t t f MORE RUMORS - The town continues to be f ilied with rumors of commercial moves and new d-2velopments Incidentally, the thre'e storcs which vacated the former Knlight building have held their openings in new premises. Astor Photo Studio, one of the best photographers Bowmanville has ever had, is now located over Carter's Family Bakery, Sutton's Barber Shop is just east of McQuinn's Grocery and Goheen's Handy Store is in enlarged premîses next to Simpson's-Sears office in the Walker building, King St. W. It is expectèed the building they vacated will be torn down soon, although information is hard to corne by. + t tf + J. FIRST GAME - Bowmanvilie High Sehool appears to have quite a football team. They defeated their new Courtice rivais 47-O last week in their f irst encounter, but the western squad hopes to do better in their next encounter. Base- bail is stili very much in season although football and hockey have started. The Midgets play the first game of their Ontario finals here on Satur- day afternoon against long-time rivais from Merritton, with the second game there on Sunday. Let's have a crowd to cheer this young unsponsor- ed local team along. They menit your support. Local citizens should have seen the over 1,000 crowd at Clinton last Sunday for the juvenile final in which the locals were eliminated. It put our one or two hundred crowds here to shame. TAKE IT EASY - This is Thanksgiving weekend xith a holiday on I\'onday when the roads will be packed by those trying to take advantage of the last big \veekend of the season. We suggest you take it easy, drive carefully and live longer. t t i~i*tt SERTES STARTS - This afternoon and for several days in the future, littie work will take place due to the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds. Television sets wiIl b'e working overtime this week. Yanks are 9 to 5 favorites as the first game gets underway neath cloudy skies in New York.
