F jrst Baby Born Here in 1962 4', Durham County's Great Family Jour VOLUME É1-08 hdenmrn 16 Pages BOWMANVILEOTAOWDEDYJAUYlth 1962 loc PerCopy NUMBEIÏR-2 Secrecy Lifted CDON WILL MILLIýGAN'S OccupY LVSTORE BUILDINIG At long last the secrecy surrounding the build- ing construction on King Street East, opposite Beaver Lumber, has been lifted. The new structure will house Don Milligan's brand new IGA Store, now located on the south side of King St. West; also, there will be an unidentified 1,500 sq. ft. retail outiet adjoin- ing it and over this part, there will be dental offices. This information was released Wednesday morn- ing by both Mr. Milligan and Dr. Wm. Rudeli, owner of the property. It is expected that the buildings will be completed by May lst. The new Milligan IGA Store will be 45' x 95' in size, of one storey construction with a full basement and parking for over 30 cars. It will be modern throughout, with the entire building air-conditioned. W. A. Killoran, Peterborough, is the contractor and Albert Cole of Bowmanville is supervîsing construc- tion for Dr. Rudeil. Mr. and Mrs. David Singular, R. R. 4, Oshawa, are the parents of the first baby born in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, in 1962. Their first baby, this yawning baby girl, was born on January 4th at 4:50 a.m., with Dr. E. D. Hubbard the attending physician. Mrs. Singular was Jean Loukes, formerly of Cobourg. Her husband is employed at Bathurst Containers in For Mr. Milligan, the cancelFom r ' lation of the Avro Arrow plane Fome eCior 1-ere contract by the federal govern- ment, must now appear to have been a blessing in dis- guise. At that time in 1958 heSp a e eIso a p n s had been with Avro for eseverale ll o years, and was working on Orenda engine production con- trol when the plant closed. Duffv suffered a heart attack in Decembcr. ýsc WINTER IS HERE- Zero temperatures and high ýp.i winds on Tuesday kept plumbers busy trying to ,,: keep folks warm around the area. Unfortunately, due to the f reezing ain over the weekend which brought traffic almost to a standstill, the roads stili \veren't in too good shape for travelling far. Several complaints were eceived at The States- man office from local esidents who felt the town's% works department should have done considerably more sanding and salting of the streets and side- walks. We pass themn along in the hope that dur- ing the next storm, the budget will allow for quîck action. IIELD OVER - Recently, our hard-working member of the provincial legislature, Alex Car- ruthers of Garden Hill, made a most interesting speech in the House, in which several matters of local importance were discussed. We hope to carry the full text of this address in a forthcoming issue and regret that we have been so crowded, trying 10 catch up on held-over copy from holiday season that there just wasn't room for it in this edîtion. + t f t t OPPORTUNISTS - On Monday at the Kiwanis Club meeting, a special auction was held for a bit of fun and to raise money. A small parcel was auctioned and the contents were worth $150. One of the members finally bid il up to 50c and bought ch ac l What a bargain!
