-The Canadian Statesmnan, Bowmanville, Nov. 27, 1083 s c: s------------ss aSPO »o js By Frank Mohun 623-723' INTER-TOWN YOUNG BOWLERS This Sunday, starting at 2 P.M., the senior youth inter-town league, will swing into its second scheduled meeting at Liberty Bowl, when many of the top bowlers ln this area will be in action. Saturday, the bantam girls wiII bowl as usual, but ail afternoon schedules have been cancelled because of the big Santa Claus parade. T t i t t ORR SURE-FIRE PRO PROSPECT Very rarely does a defenceman rank as one of his tearm's top goal-scorers. Sometimes they do lead in as. sists but the Generals' Bobby Orr is second on the club. in goals, with nine, only two behind leader Ron Buchanan. That makes Bobby the top scoring defenceman in the Junior "A" loop. This is quite a feat when you consider his age - 15 years old and in bis second season with Oshawa. Not only Is Orr (who was selected as one of the outstanding play- ers in the Little N.H.L. tournament held here) scoring goals nt a terrific clip, but there is considerable Import- ance attached to many of them, particularly the last two rnarkers. Ini the last two home games, the starry defender has scored three times, includîng both winners as the Gens defeated St. Catharines 3-2 and Niagara Falls 2-1. Oshawa now holds a four point lead over Kitchener, with a game in hand which was made up Monday night Jn Peterborough. Lest time out the Petes won 2-0 in the final four minutes, after the Generals had fought the -second-placers in a scoreless thriller most of the way. Last Snight <Tuesday) Montreal Jr. Canadiens were here ln what *should have been a real crowd-pleaser. Oshawa has done well against both these highly-rat. ed clubs, but haven't been able to latch on to many points. "Monday and Tuesday wins would have helped. (Although » this column was written before the games in order to mneet the press dead-Iine - reports on the action appear elsewhere ln the Statesman.) t t ttt ICE REAL SMOOTH That new ice planer (cleans and floods too) looks like a great investment for the Memorial Arena, and after a test spin on the blades we can guarantee that the ice sur- face is in great shape. In the long run, the new contraptian should pay for Itself, flot ta mention what better ice means ta the im- provement of hockey action. t ANOTHER BIG WEEK-END Here we go again - Central Ontario Badminton1 championships Friday and Saturday, Santa Claus Parade -end Grey Cup game!1 Friday at the Bowmanville Badminton Club ladies and men's doubles play gets underway at 7 o'clock, while1 Saturday will see singles gaing at 9 A.M., mixed doubles et 12:30 and the finals at 7:30 P.M. As usual, a party wll round out the tourney after presentation of awards. Every- one interested in seeing the area's best badminton players in action is welcome ta visit the club. In between games, thîs scribe must find time to inake a quick change so we can escort the family to the parade, then back ta the badminton and off ta watch the Grey Cup. After that it's back ta the club again - s0 you can see the sports editor will be busy.
