Scholarship PROGRESS REPORT No. 1 -e -e j> 1- 'w 0 (A ho E '8 Bowmanville Trunk Feeder Cable bý Fired-Up and Ready To Go Barly this week final tests on the feeder trunk cable to serve Bowmanville was checked out A-O.K. This is a 3/4" coaxial cable that runs from the antenria site on Prestonville Road South along No. 2 Highway on telephone poles. The cable follows telephone poles which cut ini behind Brooks Orchland Farm and end up at a pole on Scugog Street in Bowmanville directly in front of the Bowmariville Foundry. You will notice aur transistor amplifiers along the cable span - there are abolit three per mile. Television signais carried by wire lose their strength, which we cali "cable lois". The amplifiers are spaced at intervals ta bring the signais back up so that nt the end of the six mile run we have the saine signal level that we started ivith at our antenna site. You ask, "What powers these amplifiers ? They obviously need some form of power to function." You are right, tbey do need power. This power is supplied by power supplies. The power supplies appear about every three miles. They are about 12" square, painted white, on the telephone poles with a hydro hookup. AC power is led directly into the eable which feeda the power into the amplifiers. Each power supply will operate about ten amplifiers& Next tirne you take a trip ta Oshawa via No. 2 Highway, have a look at the tele- phone poles. You will see the equipment I have described which by late summer will ge serving your community with the finest in T.V. reception. Our Bowmanville office will be opening sometime in August. In the meantime, we are accepting priority installation orders at our Oshawa office. Your order will be filed and installed on a first come basis. We wiIl be giving subsequent progmess reports ta keep you posted on how your Wcable system is progressing. iOshawa Cable TV Ltd. 0ýf f EAST MALL SHOPPING CENTRE MO0 King St. Eaùt, Oshawa Phone 723-5278 4. 4* 1- w -I <i (n G> E O v Keith Allun At Clarke High Schoo1 there were two Ontario Schol- ars among this year's- gradu- ates from Grade 13.
