The hardware merchants of Owen Sound have given notice to the public that after July lst they will adopt the strictly cash ýsystem. 1Reasonea given1 for this change of policy are owing to heavy advances in cost of goods and wholesalers shortening termis of pay- ment. One of the many reasons for high ,oost of living is attributed to merchants being too 'willing to give their ýcustomers credit-and in many cases ending in bad debts-. Cash and carry system is ideal wa,ïy of doing business and benefits both customer and merchant. It is not too soon for citizens to make preparations-for the resnrrec- tion of the Canadian Club after four years of dormancy. Bowmnanville was the.loser by not keeping its club in active operation during the war. Many towns and cities coi4timued their regular club meetings and were favor- ed with speakers of prominence from various countries- who discussed present day topics. IJnquestionably te Canadian--Club-is-a-factor-of-noe small import for enlightenment and in moulding public opiinion. Ihefirst- hand discussion of toplcs, -many of them of national importance, cannot help but have an elevating influence on the community, There is also the factor of bringing the business and professional men together freqnently for social intercourse which has the tendency to prornote good feeling and engender the proper spirit of coopera- tÉon in a marvellous manner that can scarcely be estimated. Let us not forget, either, that the father of the Cao adian Club idea is none other than a Bowmanville boy, Lieut.-Col. Chas. R. McCullough, of whom this town is justllyproud. THE NEW PRESIDENT Rev.
