METHODIST CHOIR CONCERT I A Very Exacting and Fizli Program Splenclidly Reandered. It was certainly a delighted and well satisfied audience that left the church on the occasion of the annual musical and literary evening, Tues- day, May 17th., given in the church auditorium by the Bowmianville Methodist Choir, under the direction, of Mr. David Nicholson, their organist and choirmaster, for it surely was a a great seîîglhtYtw ai! whw-hadTh good fortune to be present on that happy occasion. Cholial vor~k was principally ini evidence, MaundeTs Sacred Cantata "Penltence, Parden and Peace", which occupies someforty minutes, being given a splendid rendition by a well-balanced choir. A very in- teresting programn in addition had been arranged by, Mr. Nicholson of which we also give particiilars. Opening with the National Anthem and an Organ Fantasia ini E. Minor (Faulkes), played effectively by Miss Helen G. Morris, one of the chorist- ers, Mr. Nicholson took charge of th organ and the choir sang the fine 19th century type of church anthem music entitled "O0116w Amiable are Thy Dwellings" (Faning), one of the re- cent additions to the choir's repertfl oire. Thenfollowed the first chorusI forget Me?" wherein the singers re- vealed'the true pathos in the middle poton "Consider and hear Me", and thet 1ia climax "How long, O Lord"j with fine effect. The beautiful solo following the chorus "Oh, that I knew where I might find Hïim" was taâken by Mr. W. B. Tapson, with, all the musical expression that this solo de- mands after which the favourite hymnfý "I heard the voice of Jesus' a Sa" to the well known tune (Vox Dilecti) closed the first section of the work. Part II opens with another de- votional solo for baritone "Oh, Casti Thy Burden upon the Lord", which also received a fine rendering by Mr. T. S. Holgate with which is incorpor- ated a short chorus part "Look unto Him and be ye Saved", and the so- prano solo "I sink in deep' Mire", which requires a versatile rendering which it certainly received at the handa of Miss Elizabeth Painton who possesses a pleasing voice. Mr. Al- bert Hircock sang well the solo "tAs one whom His Mother Comnforteh" together with the -introductory re-1 citative to the chorus "Now is the Ac- cepted time", in which the canon TOLE'S LIST REAL ESTATE FOR SALE $3600 will buy 8 roomed brick house and office attached, opposite Town Hall. $2800 will purchase 7 roomn frame bouse on Chtirch Street, water, sewer, electric, light and furnace. 8-roemed brick bouse on Ontario-st., Bowmanville goodlot, every convenience. So well do they "fit into the picture" that except for their architecture one might almost imagine themn the product of the present age;, yet in eiéaity they stand as silent tributes to the wise precaution against decay and deterioration on the part of a former generatio'n.
