Plans were finalized for those going to Solina's "Fun Day" on Thursday. The most enjoyable pro- gramme, provided by the olina visitors was chaired by Miss Pearl Leach. With Mother at the piano and Father as spokesman, the three daughters and one son of the Don Taylor family provid- ed several musical numbers. These songs by the six Taylors, including several from the Sound of Music were very well received. Mrs. Ashton read several excerpts from the Consumer Bulletin giving tips on econ- omic buying, if there is such a thing. As Blackstock did not have a delegate attend the Area Convention in October, it was interesting to hear the report given by Mrs. Pascoe of Solina. Mrs. Langmaid read a humorous article entitled, "Memory Threads" which brought back vivid memories of the back upstairs to many of us. The final item was a musical romance in which everyone had a part. The meeting closed with O Canada, social time and lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wright Oshawa were Saturday even- ing dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy McLaughlin and Debbie. Sunday dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Murphy, Mrs. Bella Murphy, Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Murphy, Bowmanville. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mahaffy spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mahaffy, St. Mary's. Glad to report that John Venning has returned home from Toronto Hospital follow- ing an ulcer attack. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Bailey attended the Principals' Dinn- er and Dance at the Polish hall in Oshawa on Friday evening and report a fine time. Congratulations to David Larmer who is a representa- tive of Ontario at the National 4-H Club Conference held in Toronto during this week. As there are only eight represen- tatives from each province (four 4-H members and four Homemaking representa tives) 'we realize what an honour that Blackstock is represented. FRANK A. MOORE Mrs. Frank A. Moore, aged 81 years, passed away sud- denly on Thursday, October 18, 1973, at 52 Leahann Dr. in Scarborough. Formerly Mamie Laverne Westlake, she was married on December 24, 1913, to Mr. Frank A. Moore who prede- ceased her. She received her education in Solina, where she was born. The deceased had resided in Scarborough for four years, and before moving there lived in Bowmanville. Her chief interests centred around her family and home, and she was a member of the United Church, Left to mourn the passing of a dear mother are three daughters and three sons, Mrs. R. Cochrane (Ruby), Blackstock, Mrs. Wm. Step- hens (Kathryn), Scarborough, Mrs. T. Huntley (Helen), Newmarket, Arthur, Whitby, Harold, Bowmanville, and William, Scarborough. The funeral service was held on Saturday, October 29th from the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, Bowmanville, and was conducted by Rev. R. Cerwyn Davies. B.D.. Dip.Th. During the service .wo favourite hymns, Abide with Me and Nearer My God tn Thee, were played by the organist. Interment was in Hampton Cemetery. Pallbearers, ail grandsons, were Messrs. Ron Moore, Larry Moore, George Moore, Earl Cochrane, Donald Moore and Ken Huntley. Many lovely floral tributes attested to' the esteem in which the deceased was held, among which were those from the C.N.R., Toronto, Duplate Co., Oshawa, Chemical Equip- ment Fabricators, Scarbor- ough, Ajax Recreation Centre, Ajax. As well, numerous donations were made in her memory to the Heart Fund and Cancer Society. HAKRISSON E. MURPHY The first principal of Cen- tral Collegiate, a position he held for 18 years, Harrisson.E. Murphy died at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Monday, Nov. 5, 1973. He had suffered a heart attack while hunting partridge in the Uxbridge district. He lived at 616 Hortop Ave., Oshawa. Born Sept. 28, 1905 in Smith Falls, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murphy. He was married Nov. 11, 1930 in Ottawa He spent ;ometime in Arnprior as a boy. He graduated from Queen's University with his MA in 1926, majoring in English and History. He came to Oshawa in 1929, taughtt OCVI, and became vice-principal. He was an inspector of teachers for the Ontario County Board of Education on a part-time basis. He was active in John Howard Society, was a mem- ber of the Oshawa Camera Club, was a member of the Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club. He was an excellent fly fisherman and a pianist. He was an adherent of the United Church.. He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn M. Giles; one son David and his wife, Audrey of Caesarea; two grandchildren, Carol Anne and Pàtrick. A private family service was held at the Armstrong F'uneral Home Thursday, fo- lowed by cremation. Dr. H. A. Mellow officiated. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the scholarship fund of Central Collegiate would be appreciated. Mr. and Mrs. Irwin White, Fenelon Falls were recent callers of Mrs. Ruth Wilson and Mrs. McQuade. On Satur- day Mrs. Ruth Wilson and Mrs. McQuade along with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Wilson, Nestle- ton, Mrs. Lockyer, Brooklin, Mrs. Bruce Knapp, Oshawa attended a family party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wilson and Valerie Hill in honor of Lloyd's birthday. His many friends will be happy to know that Bob Bryans is progressing favor- ably following surgery in Sunnybrook Hospital. The Senior Citizens of Cart- wright took a bus to the Royal Winter Fair on Friday when all enjoyed a good day. Mr. W. D. Ferguson was a Saturday cafler, Mr. and Mrs. tBruce Montgomery and Mrs. Hannah of Hampton were visitors of their cousin Mrs. J. A. Johnston. Winners at the Senior Citi- zens' Card Party on Tuesday evening were Ladies First - Susie Harris, Second - Bessie Me Cullough, Third - Elva VanCamp. Men's High - Hugo Bradley, Second - Bill Cox, Third - Lionel Byam. The Blackstock U.C.W. evening unit members met at the home of Joan Grove for the November meeting. Donna Kyte opened the meeting with a welcome to everyone and a reading entit- led "Seeds of Happiness". A skit about a busy comm- unity worker was then pre- sented. After the business of the meeting, Marilyn Cochrane conducted a devotional about Christian courage attained by paryer and trust in God. The December meeting will be held on December 3 at the home of Joan Thompson. A social hour and tasty lunch brought the evening to a close. O.N.O. Meeting The November meeting of the O.N.O. was held at the home of Wilma VanCamp with 25 members and three visitors present. President Joan Grove presided. A favorable treas- urer's report was given by Jean Goble. During the business period plans were finalized for the trip to the Liberace Show at the O'Keefe Centre on Tues- day, November 13. A donation of $10. was given to the Hospital Auxialiary for the Doll Draw. It was decided to increase the dishes to 150 place settings. The Federation Banquet will be catered to on Nov. 22 for 125 people. Sandra Hoskin is the convenor of this banquet. Discussion was had regard- ing the plans for celebration of the 25th anniversary of the formation of the O.N.O. Club in 1975. A bus has been chartered to go to the New Scarborough Town Centre on Tuesday, November 20 at 4:30 sharp. If interested, anyone may call Barbara Byers for further information. A tasty lunch and social time concluded the meeting. The Annual Remembrance Day service was held in the Recreation Centre on Satur- day morning and was conduct- ed by the Rev. V. Parsons of the Blackstock United Church. The Service was opened with singing of O Canada accompanied by Mrs. Gladys Thompson followed by the Call to Worship and Prayer of Invocation. The hymn O God our Help in Ages Past was sung. This was followed by the Scripture Reading and Add- ress in which Mr. Parsons dealt on the reasons for Remembering. After the Prayer of Remembrance, the hymn, Thy Kindgom Come, O God was sung. The parade to the Cenotaph was led by the color groups followed by the Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, the Reeve's party former servicemen and the public. At the cenotaph Reeve Malcolm read the Honour Roll which was followed by the laying of wreaths. The two minutes silence and the Queen concluded the service. Cartwright High School News The school received $50. from the returnable bottles they collected in their Clean- Up Cartwright Campaign held a few weeks ago. Two bus loads of students left Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. for the Royal Agricult- ural Winter Fair and returned at 1:00 a.m. that evening. Some spent the day at a movie or shopping downtown or looking at the exhibits at the R.A.W.F. The Annual Commencement Exercises will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 8:30 p.m. in the Recreation Centre, Blackstock. There will be presentations of diplomas, proficiency awards, field day trophies and the Valedictory address. The grade thirteen's will present a one act play and the Glee Club will sing three selections. Everyone is wel- come to come. During the next two weeks, students of the C.H.S. will be conducting a canvass for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. If you are missed and wish to make a donation contact any student.
