CROSS COUNTRY SKIING - The Pine' Ridge Cross Country Ski Club, Oshawa, held a'meeting at Eastdale Collegiate in Oshawa, Tuesday evening, Dec. llth, with approximately 150 people -in attendance. Guest speakers for the evening were Lars Carlson, Bowmanville, and Niel McDonald. Mr. Carlson, who is a physical education instructor at Clarke High Sehool, spoke on Fitness and the Cross-Co.untry Skier. Because cross-country skiing can be very physically demanding at times, it was suggested that basic tra ining be done before skiing. Mr. Carlson suggested on the spot running and outdoor walking or' joggfing as cardiovascular exercises; toe to-ucýhing, lateral bends, side stretching aîdsode turns as flexibility exercîses, alîipui ups, abdomen sit-ups, knee bends and terie as strength exercises. County Chrysler's Andy Rowe scored with less than three minutes to play, as they gained a 2-2 draw a gainst Locke's T.V. The Split in points left County one point ahead of Lockes in the standing. The Chrysier bunch have claimed five of a possible eight points in their four matches with Lockes this season. In the late cont est last week, McNulty's Sports almost let a 6-3 third period lead escape, but managed to survive for an 8-5 win over Kramp's Furni- ture. The. Sportsmen netted two empty-net goals in the final 31 seconds, both by their scoring wizard, Steve Burns. In the first contest, Lockes and County. struggled through 40 scoreless minutes of hockey as both netminders were outstanding. The Western Electric squad went ahead 1-0 in the second period on a goal, by Barry Cuillen, assisted byv Billy Hogarth. Bowmanville went ahead 2-0 at the 10:40 mark of the third when Joe Nihill completed a lovely passing play, the as- sists on the goal going to Billy S$ainsbury and Rod Plain. Cobourg refused to give u.p, scorîng at the 12:45 mark to make the final score read 2-1. Kenny' Woodard, played in goal- for Bowmanville being very steady to earn the.win. On Sunday, Bowmanville travelled to Markham to play the undef eated host squad and lost 2-0 in a hard checking tilt. The game was a display of exciting action, with play going from end to end, with both teams having great scoring opportunities. WUI just 4:16 remaining in the game, Markham scored to go ahead- 1-0. Bowmanville pulled the goaltender in favor of the extra attacker but Markham scored the clincher with 14 seconds remainîng to earn a well deserved victory. Steve Skene was in goal, for the Western Electric squad and was very sharp, coming up with several great saves. B antams Blank Petes Outscore Ajax 4-2 *The H. L. Wood Bantams took two well earned victories fromn the opposition, in the past week defeating Ajax in their home rink on Fri. by a score of 4-2, and won a home encounter with, Peterborough blanking themn by a >count of 4-0. In the game at' Ajax, the Transporters took an early, lead with, Brad. Godfrey drilling one home at the four minute mark on a power-play effoptset up by Don Farrow and Brent Badour.
