The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, March 20, 1974 7 LADIES HOCKEY TOURNEY - Oshawa Gus Brown Motors' goaltender Susan Bond found ber goal area a busy place Saturday during action in the Oshawa Invitational Ladies' Hockey Tournament ati the Civic Auditorium. Kingston attackers put on the, pressure en route to a 6-2 triumph over Oshawa. Kingston weýit on to take the tourna- ment titie. SCORING ACE - Nighthawks' scoring ace Steve West, gradually pulling away from the pack, is chalking up points at a pace which would make him the 23rdplayer in league history to accumulate 100 or more in a single season, and also has a solid shot at becoming the league's iith 50 goal man. With those kinds of credentials, West would be a shoo-in for Al-Star honors at centre.. . Entering last Saturday's meeting in Hershey, the Hawks owned an impressive 3-0-2 siate against the South Division pace setters, including two wins on Bear grounds. On Sunday, Steve played in his 7th game and has a total of 101 scoring points on the strength of 46 goals and 55 assists. Do it again and lose your licence for six months.' In this province', it definitely pays' a driver to score a big fat zero. Ontario's demerit point system is designed to convince the poor driver to drive properly. Drivers who do not improve are then taken from the road because they're a menace to pedestrians and to other drivers. But the system is not at ail unjust. Itfs aimed at telling the driver where he's gone wrong and giving hirff pl enty of time to cor- rect bis faults. For instance. When you've accumulated six points, you'l be- notified and urged to improve your driving. When you've got nine, you'1l prob- ably be asked to attend a private interview and re-do your driving test. At fifteen points, you'll lose your licence for thirty days and drop back to seven points. Getfifteen again and you won't drive for six months. However, your record won't be indelibly marked. If you drive for two years without a traffic, con- viction your points are erased and your siate is clean.
