Three Oshawa riders, competing in the various events, are Don Cranfield, Ken Ashton and Don Townsend. FLASHBACK 10 Years Ago - On Saturday, at the youth's bowling banquet a special award of individual trophies, were made to Francine Burns, Joanne Bromell, Debbi Sellers and Nancy Goodwin. Bowling together as bantams for three years, they have been members of every bantam girls team that has taken part in tournaments away from home. HOLE-IN-ONE - honors to Bob Lewis, who scored his ace at Pebblestone Golf Course, last week, on the second hole, 190 yards, with a three iron. Attested by John Heron and Dale Ledford, it was the first hole-in-one at Pebblestone this year. 1IERB HOLZSCHELTER - of Ashburn's Thunderbird Golf Club and Ben Kern of London, Thames Valley Club, tied for honors as the low Canadian pros, placing third with 210 and winning $1,755 each in the Ontario Open at Bayview last week-end. Art McNickle, won $3,900 for first place with 202, while John Jacobs won $2,925 with 208. Both are from California. OLIVER - won the 50 lap Labatt's Blue Can-Am feature on Sunday at Mosport, defeating George F ollmer, finishing less than two seconds ahead of Californian Follmer. While Oliver's shiny black Shadow retired to the pits in the lOth lap because of a faulty pressure relief valve, Follmer picked up $5,000. For the 30-lap sprint, averaging 112.93 in a time of 37 minutes, 53.3 seconds. Finis hing second in the dash was Scooter Patrick, in a McLaren M20, with Bob Nagel, driving a Lola T260M, third. Patrick collected $3,700, while Nagel added $2,700. to his bankroll. However, after Follmer took the checkered fla g, he returned to the garage area and confronted 'liver. While a Canadian record of 100,000 fans crowded into Mosport yesterday, few realized that UOP teammates Jack ie Oliver and George Follrñer had engaged in a punching battle just prior to the 50-lap Labatt's Blue Can-Am feature. During Follmer's charge to second place, he set a Mosport Can-Am record of 1:14.6, or 118.667 mrph around the 2.45-mile course, exceeding the late Peter Revson's 1:15.2 set during the 1972 Can-Am. Oliver covered the 50 laps in 1:05:52.2 seconds, averaging 112 mph, and won $10,000. In claiming the feature, Follmer averaged 111.94 mph in 1:05:54.1 to grab $7,300. Eppie Wietzes of Thornhill driving an expensive Ferrari, had misfortune strike him again. Although he finished second in Saturday's Formula .5000 event, Wietzes car started sputtering late in the event because of çuel tank problems. HUGHES GOES TO KANSAS - It was learned on Thursday that Brent Hughes, N.H.L. hockey player with the Detroit Red Wings, was called to the Kansas City team, in the player draft. Bep Guidolin will be coaching the team. Steve West will go to Washington. TOO MUCH SUMMER SUN - Sunburn is no laughing matter for the victim, neither is heat exhaustion or sunstroke. At one time or another most of us have stayed out in the sun and heat too long and suffered for it. A little first aid 'know how' can usually prevent the distress from developing into a serious condition. If your day of suntanninf inakes your skin feel on fire and you're nauseatea, dizzy and feverish, you need some first aid fast. Here is an effective treatment recommended by the Ontario Safety League. Fill a bathtub with tepid water (body temperature) and dizzolve a medium-size dpackage of corn starch in it. A half hour of soaking in this solution will usually dissipate body heat, relieving the intense burning, nausea and dizziness. For small sunburned areas, try soaking the burn in cold water or applying cold, moist compresses until the pain ceases.
