8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, September 11, 1974 Section Two School Growth 1-n Durham ,Education minister Tom Wells was asked by the D~urham scho ol board to set up aà speciai task force dealing ,with unique growth probiemas within the region. While enrol- ment in most Ontario schools is expected to decline for the next eight to ten years, general growth in Durham wiii resuit in an increase in school population. SMr. Wels, in refusing to set up the task force, did agree to a "basically informai, but proven effective" ad hoc arrangement with the Dur- ham board. A similar ar- rangement currently exists in Peel County. In late September, the annual ca ital forecast for the Durham Mord of education will- be presented to the trustees . Additions to the Uxbridge Secondary Schooi and Cartwright Public School, and new elementary schools in niortheast Oshawa and Ajax, are expected to be "high priority" items, according to a memo drafted by director of education Ken Munroe.
