Bould, a men the Ladies Auxiliar' Town Planner te- Report On FU ture, of Downtown Merchants with Building 0f 'Shopping Centres Newcastle's Planning Dir- ector George Howden inform- ed a special meeting of the Planning Advisory Committee last Tbursday, that a study of the downtown cores of the former villages and towns in Newcastle had been prepared over the summer, and t would be necessary ta determine how much business would be taken away from them when shopping centres are built. It was voted that a special .meeting of the committee be set up in the near future so that Mr. Howden could give a report on this future situation. After hearing'an application from Bow Valley Estates for a 10 acre shopping centre on the east end of King St. Bowman- ville, the committee unani- mfously endorsed the idea of a special meeting. Mr. Howden, said this was one of three proposals for a shopping centre in Bowman- ville, and there will be more for the villages of Newcastle and Orana.
