6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 9, 1974 * I ImI 623-3303 * FLASHBACK - 25 Years Ago - The McCallum Trophy was presented to the Bowmanville Juvenile Baseball Team immediately following their 10-2 win over the Oshawa Juveniles on Saturday at the B.H.S. grounds. John James, M.P. for Durham, presented the trophy to team captain Bob Gallagher. Coach was Dutch Osborne and the manager Ab Sturrock of the Championship Lakeshore Baseball League team. FLASHBACK - 10 Years Ago - Lloyd Ellis Shoes team put up a good fight in the Jr. Soft- ball playoffs, but were defeated by Sam's Finer Foods. Ellis' team members are: H. Webster, J. Hancock, A. Woodcock, B. Yourth, B. Adams, B. Crossey, B. Ogden, J. Coyle, T. Le- veck and B. Adams. RED EAGLES - next game goes Friday night in Lindsay, starting at 8:30. Why not drive out and watch some great hockey. It's less than an hour's drive. THREE GENERATIONS OF BOWLING - In the Men's Major League, the Coombes family make up three generations of bowling. Les Coombes and his son Rowlie and Rowlie's son Wayne, are ail members of the Men's Major. This is the first time this has ever happened in one league in Bowmanville, and we doubt any other league can boast this record anywhere. Right now, grandpa Les is leading both boys in the averages. Les has 231, Rowlie 218 and Wayne 215. This is quite a record. TEAM CANADA - So much has been written, so much has been said, this column gets into the act with its two cents worth. Why, did Team Canada go to Russia for the last four games for the second time? Everyone knows the advantage of home ice. Couldn't it have been alternated? Why the fiasco when Team Canada arrived in Moscow? The head of government çould have eased the situation in a gracious gesture. It seemed like a strategic move, and Russia has a good enough team without tricks. And the refereeing. That was really something. In games with this calibre of players, every edge is important. So let's stand behind our Team Canada. They've given a lot. OWASCO - Volkswagen Ltd., Porsche + Audi, Whitby, are sponsoring a new weekly feature "Player of the Week", in the Statesman, begin- ning this week.-A member of the Bowmanville Junior C Hockey Club he will be chosen by his coaches to be deserving of this honor.
