Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Freer of Orillia visited for Tuesday evening dinner and were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davison were Sunday dinner guests on Thanksgiving with their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. R. Douglas Davison, Scott and Neil at the farm at Bridgenorth. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raymond, their daughter, Margaret, husband and fam- ily. On Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm were hosts for their Thanksgiving family gathering. Pictures were shown of some of his one hundred twenty-five beef herd with picturesque multi-colors of'his farm and and bush. Views were shown of the McLaughlin family as they attended worship at Black- stock United Church. The Minister, Reverend Victor Parsons in the pulpit and Mrs. Parsons in one of the pews as the Thanksgiving service was beirig conduetedto a lar e congregation were clear y depicted. This is rural Ontario at its best with farm families, the backbone of the country, continuing in the faith of their pioneer parents and grand- parents. On Tuesday of last week, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Heaslip were dinner and supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Weylie McKeown at R.R. Caledon East. On Saturday, the Hea- slips and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Irvine, Bowmanville, called at the Butler Funeral Parlours in Islington in re- spect for the late Mrs. Howard McKeown. The first euchre party, October 7,'sponsored by Nest- leton Women's Institute got away to a good start with 14 tables playing with 3 extra persons. Mr. Herbert Vine, Port Perry spent the weekend with ber son, the Wilfrid Vine family, Mrs. Dorothy Haines, Caesarea, was a Sunday guest. Double Birthday Celebration Four generations were pre- sent for mid-day dinner on Thursday, October 10, to honour Mr. Wm Armstrong of Port Perry on his ninety-sixth birthday. Those attending were his daughter Mrs. Marg- uerite Hicks, granddaughter Miss Betty Hicks and great- grandson, Tom Presser who was celebrating his twelfth birthday. Congratulation are extended to those gentlemen - the Young and the Young at Heart. On Monday evening Mrs. Hicks and ber son Mr. George Hicks had dinner with ber father Mr. Armstrong (Mr. Armstrong was a native of Cartwrig t Township and farmed here until his retire- ment). For many years he regularly attended Nestleton United Churcb where be sang in tbe choir. Nestleton-Presbyterian Ladies' Aid On Wednesday evening, Oct. 9, Mrs. Stan McNeely, Wil- liams' Point. was hostess for the Ladies' Aid of Nestleton, Presbyterian Churcb. Mrs. Henry Visser, the president, thanked the hostess for having the meeting, 'wel- comed all, and opened the meeting witb a Thanksgiving Hymn and the Lord's Prayer, in revision. Tbe theme for the meeting, "Thanksgiving ', was in charge of Mrs. McNeely. Tbe devotions "Pray" "Praise", "Give Thanks" and Prayer with the Bible reading second Corinthians. ChaDter 8. Mrs. Grant Thompson and Mrs. Norman Johnstone assisted the hostess with lunch and Mrs. Harry McLaughlin voiced the appreciation. R egion Wants Scrutiny 0f Provinctil and Ban king Policies Durham Regional Council is interested in the land banking activities of the provincia government. The province is reportedly aying $6,500 an acre for land which will not be developed for many years. Scugog Mayor Lawrence Malcolm estimates that the province now owns approxi- mately 4,700 acres around Brooklin. He says that farm- ers have been paid as much as $2 million for a 350 acre farm. (The farmers will rent the land back from the govern- ment until it is needed for development.) Feeling they should be involved in the acquisition of land in Durham region, coun cil has asked for a meetinf with the Ministry of Housing. They have also requested a list of province-owned lands considered suitable Dr. Matt Dymond M.P.P. for Ontario riding, explains that the province-owned land will be used as needed for development.
