12 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 30,1974 Section Two Bowman ville Girl Guide Receives Canada Cord this unique achievement.-Tow ladies having birthdays were also recognized - Mrs. M. Shortridge of Blackstock and Mrs. C. Ferguson of Newton- ville. As Mrs. Fraser declared the fair wastopen, a general rush took the ladies to the places they were most inter- ested in. The Home Baking vanished like magic, as well as many other attractive merchandise. A number of ladies repre- senting each branch demon- strated a craft they were skilled in. Among these were different forms of embroid- ery, covering coat hangers, crochet vest, the W. I. crest embroidered on a blue velvet table runner, needle point, copper tooling, artex em- broidery, paper folding into attractive articles, a beautiful bed spread from squares crocheted and a knitted af- ghan These all attracted the ladies, watching the artists at work. Soon, Mrs. Fraser announc- ed the draws would take place. Mrs. L. W. Hughes, area viçe president, made the draws which wPre announced bv Mrs. Fraser. The winners were as follows- 1. Miss Hazel English, Black- stock, an apron; 2. Mrs. Wm. Milligan, Newtonville, doilies; 3. Mrs. Milton Samis, Newton- ville, pillow slips (fancy); 4. Mrs. T. Vandergaast, Bow- manville, beautiful cake made and decorated by Mrs. Hoy, Kendal; 5. Mrs. F. Pascoe, Newtonville, embroidered pil- low slips; 6. Mrs. F. Hoskin, Blackstock, a blue mountain ware dish; 7. Mrs. C. Bray, Solina, a string of wooden beads; 8. Mrs. M. Firlet, Nestleton, a silver spoon: 9 Mrs. L. J. McArthur, Black- stock, another beautiful cake. At the conclusion of the draws, the ladies were invited to partake of the delicious lunch of goodies provided by each branch, with tea or coffee. This was served by the district executive and Maple Grove ladies. All agreed they had a most enjoyable afternoon and cleared $133.40 for district purposes reported by Mrs. Wm. Ashton, Secretary - Treasurer. A few items not sold over the counter were auctioned off with Mrs. Myrtle Bradley as our capable auctioneer - This caused much fun. Perhaps we'1l auction more items in future. The whole affair was most agreeable and successful. Mrs. Fraser thanked all for coming and especially thank- ed members for their help.and co-operation in the Fun Fair of, 1974. Being a safe driver isn't difficult, a professional told the Ontario Safet League. "All you have to o is drive one safe mile; then repeat it thousands of times over." PARKING HEADACHES Parking usually presents three problems: finding a place, getting in and getting out. It's this last point that many of us overlook, suggests the Ontario Safety League, When you park that vehicle, askyourself ifyou're going to have any problems getting out. If you drive into an alley, park and try to back out, you're asking for trouble. If you park too close to a busy corner, or a traffic signal, you may not find anyone who will let you pull out into the stream of traffic.
